I've never tried a mix, but I've fed Sudan grass hay occasionally through the years (and I'm feeding it right now) and I haven't had a problem with it. You have to know your hay source, and get the hay analyzed if you can, because if it's not grown and handled properly it can cause toxicity in horses. This article explains it, and has some good links: http://desertequinebalance.blogspot....y-caution.html
One other thing about it is that it costs less per bale than other grass hays (at least for me), but it is lighter in weight, too, so I have to feed bigger flakes of the Sudan. If you work that out, it may not actually save you any money. Of course, if it's a matter of availability and not cost, then you can just ignore that! Anyway, maybe someone else will chime in now!
