Question Adding Apple Cider Vinegar...

to water to keep algae out? Is this true? If so how much do I add to the water?

I still had to clean out my tank once a week but it is great for natural fly repellent and puts a glorious shine on them when the horses drink it.

i would think the vinegar would spoil the water, esp if it heats up. personally i wouldn't add anything to my horses water just so that i know they are drinking. dehydrated horses casue too many health issues. just get a good scrub brush and a little bleach and scrub away.......rinse well !!!!!

You can add a cap full of bleach to the water and that will help especially if it is well water to begin with. I would definitely say no to vinegar though!

hello there,
(sorry new here but a long, long time lurker and I suppose this conversation will be where Ill finally pop in and interject )

But with apple cider vinegar Ive yet to ever successfully give it to my mare. Once she suspects something different in her water she will either dump it out or splash in it till its empty and automatically refills. So i suppose its a moot point. But I did finds another use for it.

Unpastuerized acv (the one containing "the mother" elements) has disinfectant properties as well as soothing abilities for burns, rashes, insect bites and fungal growths. For a good home remedy to take care of thrush, mix acv with about 7 to 10 drops of tea tree oil in a spray bottle. after cleaning the hoof give it several spritzes with the mixture and let dry. Usually within a day and a half to 2 days results become noticable. This mixture is also an awesome prevenitive as well and can be included in a daily regime.

sorry, forive my wee novella lol
