lameness

I have a 4 year old mini mare thats lame in one of her front feet. I put her on the lunge line for a few mins exercise on Friday and noticed saturday she was lame. I've clipped both front legs so i could compare them. They both look the same. I cant find any swelling or feel any diff in temps.

I did put some horsemans linament on the sore side from shoulder to hoof. I checked the hooves too. No difference. She really doesnt want to put any weight on the sore leg. She's never been lame before and she wasnt even worked that hard only like 10 minis walking and trotting. I'm hopping she's just sore from working out or maybe she pulled a muscle i'm planning to keep putting linament on it and massaging. i'm going to try to go get some pain killer too like brute.

I dont think she was kicked either her buddy is my stallion and they have been together for a whole year with out probs.

Is it the leg, or have you tap tested the hoof to check for possible bruise or maybe a building abcess in the hoof.

That's my thought. I had one come in and looked like she broke her hip. She had an abcess in her right hind toe, once it was dug out, she was sound

Worth a look see

Don't some mini lines carry genetic hoof and joint issues? Films might be a good idea.

Yes, the hoof was what I was thinking...stone bruise? or did you check her feet for gravel?

It could be a bruise, does she have shoes on, or has farrier recently trimmed. My horse's old farrier turned out to be actually making his feet crooked.

Sounds suspiciously like an abscess...any heat in that sore hoof?

I would keep an eye on it..maybe an abscess? You could check for heat & digital pulse just to be sure she's not starting a bout of laminitis?? Could just be a stone bruise also.
