Feed Allergic Horse

We have a Tennessee Walking Horse Stallion that was diagnosed with what they thought was a case of COPD *asthma*, Well after a second opinion and an allergy test we found that he is allergic to Oats and Corn and it causes an allergic reaction in his throat. I am having a problem finding a feed that might be suitable for him. I have looked at low starch feeds and that seems like it might be the route to take but does anyone know of any feeds that might help?

What about alfalfa pellets and beet pulp with a good all around supplement like Source? Or a protein block?

Curious, how close are you to alabama or georgia. I use to sell Seminole Feed and they make several feeds and grains with added vitamins for horses with allergies. If you are interested just send me a PM, and I can give you all the info you would need.

I'm not sure but what I was told is even the pellet feeds consist of ground up corn and oats. Maybe just find a good vitamin/mineral suppliment that doesn't have a cereal base and give him that. Horse don't really need grain as long as they are getting a good suppliment and good quality hay.

The feed companies are your best bet. Just email your problem and a representative will email you with recommendations. They are most helpful. I find sometimes that the dealers will tell you almost anything to sell their product.
