Fur care

I groom Storm everyday thoroughly. I give her a little oil on her grain too 'cause I heard that it helps make the coat shiny. But nothing is working. Is there a product out there that helps grow out the fur quickly and makes it shiny. Or one for each. Any Help is greatly appreciated.

showsheen is good for sihine. I'm not sure if it helps it to grow but it conditions and makes it really soft, and it smells good.

Make sure she is healthy on the inside too. If she's not regularly dewormed she won't be shiny either. Since they came out with the new dewormers for tapeworms even my shiny horses have gotten better haircoats. I would also make sure her hay and grain are high quality also (not high priced, just good, clean and nutritious). If her hay is old or too coarse she won't get enough out of it. Make sure her teeth are in good shape so she can properly chew her feed. If she can't chew it well enough she won't be able to get the nutrients out of it. If those three things are good try a supplement specifically for the coat and hooves. Oil is great but it doesn't have the vitamins and minerals to help grow a good shiny haircoat.

Showsheen is great for occasional use-but it dries the haircoat out if used too often.
The only way to get a good haircoat-is lots of elbow grease and good nutrition
Flax seed top dressed on the grain is great for those fatty acids[rice bran too]

ToveroMom is right, too much Show Sheen is worse than not using it at all. Good grooming habits and good nutrition make good skin and coat conditions, not a bottle.

Make sure that the things Beth55051 mentioned are taken care of: teeth, parasites, and good nutrition. From there, if those are good, then, look at supplements.

Two things to remember as well...

First, you are in the winter months, and almost every horse is going to be thick and shaggy, not sleek and shiny, unless you blanket from head to toe, clip them, or keep them in a climate controlled facility 24/7.

Second, no supplement is an immediate cure-all. It takes time to see major improvements. So while everyone may suggest what they're "secret for great hair" is, it won't fix it by tomorrow.

Having said that:
We add rice bran, it does wonders for weight, AND a great haircoat. It took about a month to see major differences.

My girls have sleek shiny coats in summer, and even with them trying to grow a winter coat, they still gleam.

Both horses have had 3-5 inches of mane growth since July. Strawberry's added about 6 inches to her tail. (Lily's already hit the ground.)

We use this stuff at TSC called Super14. It works wonders on all our horses. Makes them shine like a mirror in about 3-5 weeks.
