Riding after Colic?

Just a quick question for you guys. How long do you usually wait after a horse colics to ride them again?

Whisper coliced last week. I believe we caught it before it was really bad because he never lost his appetite and never had any blockages. Just really firm manure. We had the vet out and took care of him. Hes acting fine and that was last weekend. I was wanting to take him to the arena tomorrow but im kind of scared to! I dont know if im just being over protective or if its a realistic concern. Any opinions?

I would call and ask my vet to be on the safe side.
See what he suggests.
Sorry to hear about Whisper's colic, but glad to hear he is doing well.

Did you take him? I was wondering how it went. I believe that a horse that has colic'd needs as much free exercise as possible. I don't know if you stall him, but if you can, keep him out of a staff and let him amble around in a corral or pasture as much as possible. Riding shouldn't be a problem, but I think that you'd want to work back up to any strenuous riding. Just like any athlete, you don't run a marthon, rest doing nothing for a week and then try to run another. Start light and then slowly increase the level until he is back to his normal self. Good luck and let us know how it went.

I would ask your vet...thats your best option...I think he would be fine to ride now though.
