Allergic Reaction to Dewormer?

I was wondering if any one has experienced a horse reacting to dewormer before?I dewormed our horses tonight and used a dewormer I have never used before(Eqvalan Gold)I dewormed the pony first then went to deworm the two mares.Lady bug was first and she took her dewormer normal ,but she held it in her mouth and didn't mouth it like usual just stood there,so I held her head up so she wasn't tempted to spit it out and waited while she just stood there and held it I then went and dewormed our other mare while my daughter held Ladybug(I though she was just being silly and not wanting to swallow it)while I dewormed Jesse my daughter told me she swallowed the dewormer and all was well.We then haltered our colt and took him out of the pen for his crumbles and one on one time. When I put him back and threw hay for them I noticed Lady bug was struggling trying to eat.I went in her pen to check on her and noticed that her lip is very swollen on the side that I administered the dewormer, she tried a few more times to eat but was unsuccessful her lip is making it impossible to eat.I first thought she was having issues because I had her teeth done on Friday ,but I'm thinking it's an allergic reaction because I hadn't noticed anything before she has eaten normally and she was ridden a couple days after her work and there was no issue with bitting her.

I read somewhere that the same manufacturer might make both Eqvalan and Zimectrin Gold... and I know Zimectrin Gold can burn a horse.

If you google zimectrin gold and adverse reactions you can see what people have gone through. I don't know if there is anything you can put on it. I've never had a problem, but I know several people that do. Apparently, some horses are allergic to the carrier and it causes burns and blisters.

Thanks fishing-trex for the help and the interest,my mare is better today ,she did not eat at all last night and her tounge and lip stayed swollen until this morning she was also salivating a lot on that side of her mouth.I have done a few searches on the product and didn't find much ,but when I googled adverse reaction more came up and there does seem to be a common thread of mouth burns and face sensitivity.I am really glad my mare is better and I will never use that dewormer on her again.I also will not deworm at night when the vet offices have closed (just in case) and I will have epinephrim (sp) on hand when I'm doing treatments in the future. It's amazing what one thinks about and learns after something like this.

Sorry that happened to your girl , but at least she sounds like she'll be okay !

I just order this for the fall http://www.chicksaddlery.com/Merchan...ct_Code=DI75-S and this in the spring http://www.chicksaddlery.com/Merchan...duct_Code=PY75 Never had any reactions and I have seen the results the next day . This fall I ordered 37 dewormers (24 for a neighbor with drafts, and the rest for myself and a couple friends) and even with the exchange rate and everything, each dewormer worked out to be $3.94 each. Been doing it that way for a few years now, and the savings are awesome

That really is a good savings.I have never been a mail order person(I might have to reconsider)with dewormers I would worry about freezing in transport.Have you ever had an issue with frozen product?

No, never had a problem with freezing. I get the tab in the mail and go pick up my parcel from the post office. I suppose it could happen, but realistically, it could happen with any of the product that gets transported, whether through the vet or a feed store. The expiry date is a couple years in advance too, so a person could easily order in advance and never have to worry about freezing temperatures .
