Sigh...Let's try again shall we?

Ok, in my long quest for a good horse feed that I can afford, I found this feed. I'm not sure if I can post the brand name, if I can, tell me and I will. Otherwise, this is the label:

Crude Protein- 12%
Lysine- .6%
Methionine- .19%
Threonine- .4%
Crude Fat- 6%
Crude fiber- 20%
NSC- 16.5%
Calcium- .8%
Phosphorous- .65%
Potassium- .85%
Magnesium- .4%

And then it has:
Manganese, Copper, Zinc, Selenium, Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Vitamin E

Sigh...so how does that sound? Stella is hard to keep weight on, Lena is not at all. Stella is getting the winter off, Lena is going to be rode /worked at least 3 days a week, possibly 4. I'm wondering if this feed would be better because it has low sugar and no corn. Obviously Stella would get more than Lena, but would this work for both of them do ya think?

Thanks again guys!

Well it sounds like the same feed that I switched my horses to because of the higher fat content.
as for getting weight on them I add one loaf of bread each feeding for extra calories. have been doing it for years, and my vet even suggests it to his other patients.

Really? a whole loaf? Thats a new one for me...does it work pretty well? My horses love love love bread I have a gelding thats hard to keep weight on...this may work for him...possibly...you really give them a whole loaf and it dosnt upset their tummy? Or do you work your way up to a whole loaf..or how does that work?

To the OP...that sounds pretty good. I like the high fat content and it has quite a bit of protien...so I think it would be a good choice...your allowed to post the name of the grain...as your asking a question about it

My goats recently started to get bread. They became pretty chunky pretty quickly.

The horses get a few pieces here and there because, well, they are already pretty chunky!

If you build them up to it, they should be fine. Heck, a whole loaf is nothing for a big horse! I consider it almost straight carbs.....

For the OP, I use SafeChoice. It's expensive, but it does everything I want so I don't have to feed much, which makes it cheaper in the long run.

When evaluating a feed, I look at ingredients, fat percentage, fiber percentage, and protein percentage in that order.

I feed Safechoice as well. It seems like it is more expensive, but you feed less so a bag will last me a lot longer than a cheaper brand. All three of my horses have been doing very well on this feed. Romeo and Whiskey have gained a little too much weight, so I am going to decrease their feed a little. Koko has the type of body we all want to have, she stays the same no matter what!

Yes bread is amazing. My dad works for Rainbow Bread and he brings home pallets of Roman Meal bran. The stuff they mix into the roman meal bread. We gave a few bags to my friend for her gelding. The vet said it wouldnt hurt him so long as we dont over do it. The Arab gelding is close to his 30's and looks awful. Just skinny and dead looking. After feeding this for awhile he had meat on this bones and his coat was real shinny too! Worked like a charm!
