Congratulations! I just knew she was preggers!
You asked about how big the foal is right now...here is a chart http://www.krugerranch.com/files/photofoaltimeline.htm 6 months is what 180 days? So your foal is about the size of a beagle right now- and a whopping 25 lbs! Cant wait to see the baby this spring- is it too soon to ask if you are hoping for a filly or a colt? |

Stardust, yeah we definitly all had to wait. I'm surprised so many of you stuck with me through this!
Comfort, I like that name, too! We could call the baby Surprise for short! Cute! 3Horse, yep, that would be Jack's personality. It would be un-Jacklike to leave us without something. And to go without a bang. As a two year old he was pretty friendly. A little nippy with humans, but that's because growing up the humans were his food source. A little round penning fixed that. And he was like a perfect gentleman last time I saw him. Wish I would have paid him more attention last time. And never once did he even act the slightest bit studdish while he was intact. Ever. But I still see him as that little orphan baby that would come flying out of the shelter and to the fence the second he heard a human approaching. And I remember how disgusted he was that he had to live with a minature donkey while all the other babies lived with their mommies in the field. He was everybody's best little buddy growing up.

![]() And it's not too soon, but at this point, I just want healthy. I can't decide what I'm hoping for. I think a colt is gonna be big when its old enough to ride any everything, and that'll be the end of Jack's line. But at the same time, after having a mare and the stress she puts me through (thought she's worth every second of it!), I'm thinking that a colt is a lot less complicated. But really, I'm not sure what I'm hoping for just yet.

Wanted to throw in my congratulations. What a neat surprise! I have read most of this thread - but have to admit I skipped to page 7 at one point
![]() Will be neat to see this little one in the spring, when the grass is green, the snow is gone, the mud is dried... but I digress... Will be looking forward to the foal watch! |

WAY TO GO!!
That is some pretty nice breeding there, I've seen the Uri babies and I like the top side on Jack's Dam too. Reminds me of when I bought a big Appy mare, I rode and jumped her until 3 weeks before she popped a Sept foal. The idiot I bought her from neglected to tell me she'd been out with his yearling stud the previous winter. She was a maiden who carried very high and never showed at all.(then he tried to charge me a stud fee so I could register AARG) You will have a big solid baby, and what a story!

Oh wow, lots more posts while I've been in class!
Horselady44, I'm liking the names! I like the names with meaning. Ruffian, thanks so much! Sue's daughter told me I'd have some good names on Jack's dam's side, but I don't recognize any. Just his mamma. And I was young when I met her, I just remember liking her name. lol! I'm kind of lucky to have this baby, as Sue wouldn't think of charging me and really a Uri breeding goes for $1,200. Not that a breeding to Jack would have ever been worth that much, but really, I got a free breeding out of this surprise, I guess. Chery, Jack colicked. He got into too much grain while we were away for work. Tallyho, another cute name! I'm going to have to start a list!!!

Hi
Congratulations. I am glad that your surprise is a welcome one. However I would definitely keep a close eye on her as I can't believe that she will last until April/May, she is huge for only six months. My mare didn't look that big the day she gave birth. My friend had her vet palpate her mare and he was wrong by 2 1/2 months! Make sure you have a big cardigan to put on the baby if it comes early! LOL There are other foaling signs to watch out for and it sounds as though your BO is very experienced. Have fun and enjoy your baby to come. |

Singing tree, oh how did I miss your post when I was responding to the other!? I'm already thinking that far forward, too. Can't wait until the baby is here and the weather is good. My friend joke that Lily gets photographed more than Angelina Jolie. Just wait for this foal to come, the camera won't ever get a break! ChasnCans, thanks for the congrats! HT will definitly be getting pictures in a couple months.

Thanks! Hope I'm ready for this, it's a big responsibility. But I am glad you found this thread, since you've been with me since before Lily even came along.

Now you have to have a very long and heart felt discussion with Lily about having that foal arrive on my birthday.
Hopefully she will listen to you.
