Your excitment/anxiousness to find out may very well rival mine. But it is so nice to be able to share the feelings with others! I'm still trying not to let myself think in either direction (that gets harder every day and with every comment!) so you might as well be the one to be convinced she's preggers. Somebody's gotta be. And trust me, I am going crazy! Seriously, she's on my mind 24/7. I think I'm driving the room mates insane because you can't hold a conversation with me right now unless it's about Lily and the Bulging Belly.![]() I'm sure if she is it won't be too hard to track down the daddy. If she had a night out with the boys before I bought her, then I'll just have to have a chat with the old owner again and see who she suspects. If that's the case, I'm assuming it'll be someone that she thought was cut in time but wasn't. And if it was while I've had her As for my sweet girl, she was registered once upon a time, but the old owner said the papers got lost before she bought Lily and she said she tried looking into it but decided it wasn't worth it. I was hoping I would be able to read Lily's lip tattoo, but it's definitly one big smudge now. She's my perfect mare and if anything ever happens to me, Sue will become her forever home, so I don't have to worry about not having her papers for her future, but it would sure be nice just in case that is a baby bump we're looking at. It would help baby's future. I know her old owner did breed her once and said Lily had an easy time foaling and was a great mother. And I know she would be, because the only thing that ever distracted her when we'd ride were the babies. Any horse could call to her and she'd ignore them, but if she saw the babies playing or if they talked to her, I lost her attention totally. If there is a baby, I will keep it. A) because of the papers issue, and B) because I'm greedy enough to have decided I want this. I know I'll learn what I need to and I have more than enough love to give and I'm fortunate enough to have Lily on Sue's property since Sue's a warmblood breeder. And Sue has all the patience in the world, so I know she'll help me figure things out. Besides, I'd be worried about where baby went and how its future turns out. And who doesn't love having a baby around? I know it's more work than just being able to play with the warmblood babies or do the occasional drive out to the property when Sue's away to make sure a mare that's due doesn't have a baby on the ground yet, but I'm ready for it. And wow, now I'm thinking too far ahead again and this is a very long response.

We can last another week, right? I keep asking time to HURRY IT UP!!! Too bad that doesn't seem to be working. ![]() Back on topic, I'll keep posting any updates as I get them. One of them being the fact that we thought she came into heat over the summer. She was peeing when Legacy was around (he was a stud until he was 11 so he does a good job of letting you know when the mares are in heat) and the only time she'd reply to Uri's calls was when she was in heat. But the old owner mentioned Lily made a point backing up to any gelding or even backing up to the fence if the geldings were on the other side when in heat and I didn't see this behaviour once this summer. In fact, even in heat she still didn't like Legacy checking her out. I'm still trying to figure out if I mare can come in heat while preggo. They can, can't they? And would this different behaviour be because she could be preggo, or maybe because our weather was so screwed up here over the summer that maybe her cycles just weren't as strong? Gah, they sure didn't teach this when I was in pony club!

Pretty Pony - you may already be off on your trip but I wanted to reply to your post. I had to even register on this site to be able to post as I am usually just a visitor.
You have the most delightful personality coming thru in your posts and I wanted to wish you the best of luck in finding out what the vet has to say. I only have adult horses, never had a baby (horse that is) before but even so, Lily looks pregnant to me too. |

Just thought I would add for those who have been following along with my debate on who the possible daddy is if Lily is preggo, the two year old, Jack, that's in the group pic, who may have not been cut in time died today. Not sure if it was colic or a kick in the head or what, but the boss got a call that she had a dead horse so she had to phone her son and ask him to drive out to the field to find out what horse it was. So we've been throwing ourselves into work and not thinking about it as he was a bottle baby, his momma died giving birth to him, and they just sunk a ton of money into him this summer with gelding and such.

So sad to hear that kind of news. Just a thought though...maybe pull some mane/tail hairs for DNA testing before the potential father is buried. Make sure the roots are attached to the hairs. It would confirm or rule out if he is the daddy, once the foal is born, if she is indeed pregnant if you were interested in knowing....

Sorry to hear about Jack. So sad. I second this advice, though. As hard as it may be for his owner to think about doing this, it will help you to either pin him down as the father or rule him out.

On an aside note, we (Sue and I) called the vet on the drive home to make an appointment and the vet has decided to stay on mat leave for another two weeks. Not that I can say I blame her, she hasn't had her baby very long. The joys of being out in practically the middle of nowhere is that we have no vets real close and since Sue doesn't have the barn built on her new property yet, we have to haul the horses in to have them checked instead of having the vet come out. So I'm going crazy waiting. I just want this done like tomorrow!!!Mom was talking to me today and was wondering if there was any possibility of a tumour or something because she expanded so fast. Not that she has any experience in horses, but she's trying to help and I can appreciate that she is trying to be involved. Anyway, I thought maybe I would throw that option out there while we are under the health section and see what everyone says. I know, I know, I really need to have her checked by a vet. Just wish I was close and I wish we had more choices for vets in the area. On the plus side, I called home and I plan on taking the bus back late Friday night, which means I'll be able to see my girl Saturday. So that will be awesome and I'm pumped for that. More time to spend feeling that belly. And of course, you also know that means more pictures! ![]()

I would def try to get some DNA from him though...it would be nice to know who daddy is...was Jack registered? I cant remember..is your girl registered? This suspence is intense....But Im almost positive on my guess of her being preggers...Ill be totally shocked if she isnt

I just wanted to say good luck with your mare, and I hope you get the result from the vet that you want either way. I did want to show you that it is possible for a mare to look ful-term-about-to-pop-preggers even having never been exposed to any stallion and being on a regular deworming schedule:
Prissy in Spring: ![]() Prissy in Summer: ![]() She gets even bigger than this but I try not to take pictures of the big glutton but she gets like that every summer when shes on pasture. She gets NO feed in the summer, only hoof supplements, but I really should invest in a grazing muzzle I think. BTW, when I posted that fat pic a few years ago everyone swore she was PG too, and I am still waiting on that foal. ![]() ![]() Smart choice to have her checked to be sure though, since you've had her less than a year. Good luck!
