What's with the tail???

Ok...so Dusty got moved to his new barn today. He'd been in a pasture with a bull calf for a month and although he and the bull became buddy's, he just seemed to be bored with the bull....nothing exciting I suppose. Of course when we got to the new barn, he made an idiot out of himself "talking and yelling" to the other horses way off in the pastures. We put him in the riding arena for a while so he could get aclimated to the sights and sounds of the new place. He pranced the edge of the arena closest to the pastures and would stand there and stare at them way down there.

So...it's time to take him to his personal pasture. We put him in a pasture by himself for a couple of days (also not as much grass there, but more than he had at the previous place....working him up slowly to the plentiful grass). Now I know that horses arch their necks and flair their tails when they prance and trot around showing off....I was expecting the tail to lift up a bit. But....I swear the horse is part pomeranian or chow!! The tail went up and over the back...I mean literally laying on his back (well, his rump i guess you could say). Not lifted up and out to flow gracefully in the air...nooo. I've never even seen deer raise their tails this much!

He's a gelding, so there's nothing there to show off. Is this normal or do I have a gay horse trying to flash to the other geldings across the fencelines?

my arabian cross Bentlee would do the same thing. I kinda just thought it was normal for him. and your right it isn't as pretty as the lifted tail and flowing flag of a tail. plus his tail was a little shorter which made it all the worse. he only did it if he was super excited or running away from me when I was trying to catch him.

Well...he was super excited for sure! He has no Arab in him (that I know of and certainly doesn't look it)....supposed to be a QH/Andy cross. Who knows...maybe he's pretending?...lol.

Glad to hear he's in his new digs and settling in. The tail thing is a little unusual but nothing to worry about.

river....he does seem to be doing great. I can tell a huge difference between him just being excited his first day there verses him being nervous the first couple of weeks at the previous place. Having other horses around is a HUGE help for him. Of course he rolled half a dozen times, bucked, farted and spun around like he was King of the World! Made me so happy to see him happy that I honestly shed tears!

LOL....ya know...I hung my head when I read your post version! I've been waiting to do Dusty's "photo shoot" until we got him to the new barn in hopes of getting him out of the mud so he would be cleaner. HA! Boy did he have bigger plans...lol. He manages to find the smallest spot of dirt and repeatedly position himself over and over on that tiny dirt spot until he's covered completely. Stinkin' white horses...is it in their genes to intentionally stay as dirty as possible???

Either way, we're snapping pics of him tomorrow (weather permitting)....everyone will have to overlook the dirt (and the skinny). I fear that there may be threats forthcoming if I don't get some pics of him up soon!In a way, I hope he's not so excited and the tail thing stops, but I also hope he still does it....too funny to see!

Sounds like he is really happy in his new home. And shame, shame, for no pictures.
