Mine are already listed, but a couple extras:

1. Stupid people, be it the abusers, the know-it-alls, the snobs, th pathetic breeders, etc

2. People who don't speak up when abuse is occuring right in front of them...seeing the whipping of a horse at a show, in a barn, etc. In order to change even the mind of one idiot, we have to speak up and tell them to knock it off. Give them something to think about. Not in a know-it-all-ish way, but standing up for what is correct and appropriate for the sake of that horse and all the others that ever have to be near such as a**.

3. Some Natural Horsemanship people that think just because they've taken a 6-week parelli course that they now know everything about horses.

my biggest petpeeve

People who collect horses (or any animal) and neglects to take care of them. People seem to forget that when you take on an animal and confine it, it DEPENDS on you to give the care that is needed.
People that feed lots of hay but give no medical care (worming / trimmings) or attention and think they are treating their animal fair.

2. People who don't speak up when abuse is occuring right in front of them...

And wait for someone else to say something to the proper authorities.
Especially those people who know that the abuse (starvation for example) is occuring, and won't even make an annonomaus call to help the animals out.
I can NEVER understand this,..., DO SOMETHING!!,..., they can't pick up the phone and call for themselves!!

I agree, and yet, I've been in that situation, and the authorities don't do a whole heck of a lot anyways...it's pretty frustrating when you call and they give you the run around, or they come up with some loophole that allows them to do nothing.

Heres one that I haven't seen, you may think I'm nuts but thats OK.

Hay not being taken off the field!!!!!!!!!!!

Drives me absolutley insane!!!!!!!!!! Some people around here actually have last years (black!!!!!) hay bales in the field and cut this years hay around the old bales. I DON'T GET IT Obviously lazy is the first thing that comes to mind but it just kills me to see it go to waste. Usually around Jan/Feb everybody around here is scrambling looking for hay (pet peeve #2, why wait tilll then to figure out you don't have enough hay for the winter?) With so many rescues out there that could use it! I'm embarassed to even admit I know this but one girl told me her cows like the hay better after it turned black that's why they don't worry about it sitting out all year. NOW THAT MAKES A REDNECK LOOK PRETTY DARN SMART, DON'T YOU THINK!!!!

My pet peeve is the dumb and rather insulting "cutesy" "labels" like "weanling member", "long yearling", "halter broke" that are assigned people on this board. It is almost enough to cause me to leave the board!

I HATE under-the-chin chains. I have seen many people cause their horse to pull its head up and even fall over backwards because of this method. Once a horses' head goes up it almost always gets MORE upset and excited. I personally have used the over-the-nose method and get much better results as the horse often will put its head down and look at me and back up instead of rearing. Actually I put the chain completely around the horses' nose and attach the snap to the other end of the stud chain, forming a complete circle around the horses' nose. That way if he tries to get away from me, the chain is not pulling the halter all crooked on his face possibly causing more excitement.
I use cowboy halters now with reinforced nosebands for stronger-willed animals and they are my FAVE tools, but if necessary to keep me safewith belligerent animals, I will use the over-the-nose chain until I get the horse paying close attention to me with more respect, then go to a less drastic method. I DO NOT use this method if a gentler method will work, safety always comes first for me and every animal is different, especially what they have been through before they come to me. IMO the under-the-chin chain with the snap along side the face attached to the cheek ring on the other side of the horses' face looks unbalanced and draws my attention to it instead of the conformation of the horses' face and jaw, always distracting me from the rest of the animal.

One of my pet peeves are when people call into the human society reporting a horse is thin and have them come out numerous times when the other horse in the pasture is standing right next to it is FAT and both horses are loose and have a ton bale sitting their and they are eating it. With salt blocks and mineral blocks, plenty of water/shelter, and get fed 3 times a day. People's stupidity sometimes when they don't know anything about horses, especially old ones. It keeps happening to our neighbors and I know they don't abuse the animal and I know they feed it and I know the horse is in it's 30's.

My pet peeve is bad trail manners. I've been on the backside of God's country and expierenced some of the dumbest manners in my life. If you're on a green horse or one that kicks, fine , just tag the tail. If you pack it in, pack it out! Thanks for starting this thread and letting me share my pet peeve.

umm ive had that happen to me when weve gotten in rescues..
it doesnt make me upset or mad...bc thank god one person took the time to try and make sure another living breathing thing is taken care of...

would you rather them just not care or anything?
and then when they see another one in someone elses field think the oh well they prolly feed it...??

not being mean just asking...
id rather somoene call versus just being oblivious

Mine is definitely the riders who think they are amazing (when they really are horrible!) and blame their horses for all their mistakes so the horses wind up getting beaten by the rider and sold.

My pet peeves are...

People who put down other people's ways of doing things just b/c it's not their way. Just b/c it's not "your way" doesn't make it wrong or mean that someone cares any less for their horse(s)

People who think coastal is "cow hay" or junk.

People who think you have to spend big bucks to get a good horse.

People who think somehow all that expensive tack make you a better rider or better than someone with less expensive tack.

No offense to all the people that show but I hate when I hear adults bad mouthing little kids or anyone for that matter from the ringside during class. Seriously high school was a long time ago.

I hate the politics in showing.

People who are land snobs...just b/c we horse keep on small acreage and *gasp* have to feed our horses and limit grazing to maintain pasture doesn't make us any less than you and your 20 plus where you never have to throw out hay or grain.

Just a few in addition to all the others---most of which I completely agree with!

im one of those people. all of my horses are in my lap and i like it when they walk and stand close to me as long as they dont run me over if they want to walk shoulder to shoulder it is perfectly fine with me. all of my horses have the most respect of any of the other bhorses at the ranch. they know wat personal space is and have great ground manners they always wait to be invited in but i love the in ur lap puppy dog horses.

my pet peeve is when some 1 thinks that they know everything about horses and training horses even more than the trrainer who went to school for 2 years to learn how to train horses. and they take control of both you and the horse when you as a rider are oin top of their backs. they make the rider nevous and the horse nervous so it can become a dangerous situation.

OOOHH I have a new one!

People who don't take good care of their horses, let their horses get to a bad physical condition, and then think the horse is worth so much money, and won't sell the thing for less to someone who'll take better care of it!
