I like this thread...
1. I hate people who call my horse breed (Arabian) crazy and retarded.
2. People who LIVE BREATH Natural Horsemanship. I have used it but I use other methods as well. I once had a friend show me something with the so called Carrot Stick to have my horse turn on the hindquarters on the ground or something like that and whacked him right in the head with that stupid stick. I took my stick and whacked her in the butt . Let's just say I made my point and if I have to whack my horse then I will go back to my normal routine. Why fix something that isn't broken right?3. Know it all breeders and trainers. They always have to put in their 2 cents when it isn't needed. 4. People who think their way is the only way. 5. Horses owners who skimp on treatment for their horses and then wonder why they get sick, lame, ect. Including deworming, regular hoof trims, ALL vaccines and teeth floating. If you own an animal, you need to take proper care of it. 6. People who breed crap stallions to crap mares to produce crap foals and call them awesome. They then try to sell them for high dollar and wonder why they don't sell 10 years later. 7. Overbreeding 8. Disrespect on the road from car drivers when horseback riding.

My pet peeve is when someone automatically assumes that my arab or tb are going to be hotheaded bucking wild horses! It just bugs me to no end to have to explain all horses are different!!
Another one is when people tell me what I can and can't do! I CAN jump my horse over a car . . . but am I going to do it? NO! ![]() I actually don't mind when people honk their horns... my horses are so bombproof they don't blink an eye A little off topic... but I also get bugged when people "assume" my german shepherds are going to attack and kill their child/pet/horse, when I just told them these dogs hang around kids all day!

Ohh I have quite a few pet peeves. I picked up most of these while showing, where people treated their horses like such crap, and put them in absolutely cruel contraptions just for a ribbon.
a.) Trainers who think that they can break and ride a mustang in 30 days, but can't get a trained show horse to lower it's head. These fools don't know how to ride, they know how to push buttons on a horse that is already trained. b.) People that think just because I ride western, I couldn't sit in an English saddle without falling off. I started off riding English for 10 years, and showed in A Circut hunters for years....I can ride english when/if I wanted to. c.) On the Navajo Reservation, I saw this a lot. Starving a horse for not doing what you want it to do. d.) KNOWING that your horse is sick, and not taking it to the vet. Honestly. e.) Putting a high port curb on a 3 year old. Read a book, moron. I saw this so much on the reservation, it outraged me. The mentality was if the horse doesn't do well in a snaffle, get a curb bit! f.) People that ride really spooky horses in public places, then yell at you for trotting in the arena next to them. I get this all of the time at the loca riding club, I have stopped going there. I couldn't ride. g.) Horses that beat up other horses/animals for no reason, and their owners let them. The boarders appy goes after my cats, my dogs, my horses, any animal around, me, my mom, my sister, his owner, and the girl that leases him. He went through a fence just to kick Stormy. The boarder lets him do this in the arena and on trails. One day, he backed right up into Stormy and kicked her RIGHT in the chest.

Crooked- I am totally with you on the people letting their horse beat up other ones!! My arab filly has a huge scar on the side of her head when an owner let her devil mare out with mine thinking they would "get along"!! I found my filly lying down in the arena while the mare was kicking Roxy!

Just one more....
I forgot about this one.....
People who own dogs and allow their dogs to bark and chase your horse when you are on a trail ride. I have had this happen so many times and most of the time the owner is standing right there and won't do anything while you are trying to dodge a dog and control your horse and at the same time yelling at the owner. It irritates me so much

I actually had a similar experiance with my Arabian. The lady I use to board with wanted to keep all the Arabians together in one pasture and one of her Arabs is very dominant and mean to other horses except ones he knew. She claimed they would be fine together but my boy is not a fighter by no means and I didn't like the idea. Later the evening after work, I drove up the driveway and noticed Fortune was standing all the way up at the road which was weird since it was feeding time. I got out of my car to check him out and he was pouring sweat and had 3 huge gashes and quite a few bite marks on him. I was so mad. I talked with the stable help and she said Joker had been running Fortune all day everywhere including in the woods, trees and bushes. Why he wasn't taken out of this pasture then was beyond me. I went to get Fortune and Joker charged me as I was bringing Fortune to the gate. Fortune took off with the lead rope flapping. I went in the barn got a lunge whip and got Fortune again. I had to beat this gelding half to death to get my boy out and we both were scared to death. About that time the owner saw everything and was yelling at me for beating her horse. I informed her that my horse should have never been in there in the first place. She wanted to give it a few more days and I said yeah so I can have a dead horse. Lets just say the next day my horse was off the property. It was costly to get the 3 gashes stitched and he still has a couple of scars from the accident. I guess if the cost wasn't coming out of her pocket, she didn't care what happened to my horse.

People who think trail riding means running non-stop as fast as possible.
People who take off in front of me at a dead gallop uphill when I'm still trying to negotiate the downhill...and fighting to keep Ty from taking off after them. People who think that if you can't run with them you just shouldn't be riding at all.

No doubt!!! I see that all the time and just waiting to hear of an accident where they had to sop too fast or something.

My absolute biggest pet peeve is people who own more horses than they can afford, so all of their horses get mediocre care, but if they would just sell a few they could all be fat and sassy! |

My biggest pet peeve is so general, but it leaks into everything....lack of manners, people used to dress up to travel, pick up after themselves in public and not let their children run and scream in stores, restaurants and horse events.
The horse ones... The person, who in training Gideon as a 2 year old, cut his tongue nigh off with a "correction" bit. The other people who let him sit without any human interaction for 8 years. Anyone who lets a halter get grown into a horses nose. People not willing to learn. k

At barrel races...
Strapping a young child on and overmounting them to run a 15 sec pattern. WITH NO HELMET!!! I also saw one day at our local barrel assoc. a well known girl putting her strapped in 4 yr old niece on a horse that was a known bucker. She told the child to whip the horse when he did not listen and guess what? He bucked so hard the girl became unstrapped and fell of, again with no helmet. Not a pet peeve but just wanted to tell you not to feel bad about the chain. I trained all the showmanship horses I ever had to respond to a stud chain over the nose. Under the chin naturally makes a horse lift its head. If used right a chain is a great aide. What I don't agree with is a chain in the mouth, that is just an easy fix (or attempt at a fix?) for a poorly behaved horse.
