I'm with Kanoo about the trailer windows especially. I see some going down the interstate down here dangerous we have bars. So we leave them bars up with a fly mask on the horses so sand isnt in the eyes

Another Pet peeve of mine is people who put other peoples riding abilities, horses, or just them in general to make themselves seem better or feel better.

Or the people who have lost the love of riding and only do it just to say im better then you....

Or the barn princesses and princes even that because they or mom and daddy could afford to give them lessons since they were tots think the girl or guy whose busting there but just to own a horse and maybe cant afford all those lessons isnt as good as them in there eyes.

My biggest pet peeve is encountering horses with glazed over, blank, empty eyes, obviously indicating a lifetime of being "broken".

Have to 110% agree on boarders that never come to see their horses. I have a girl here that hasn't seen her horse since mid OCTOBER and that was after 9 PM only to pay her october board . Gave her her walking papers since as of today the horse is now concidered ABANDONED and a danger .

There are some good one's here!

One of my BIGGEST pet peves is people who breed junk, never handle it, and dump if off at a sale. I see it all the time. If you have to send your babies to auction......STOP BREEDING!!!!!!! We really need low cost or free gelding!

I have to agree with the poster about buying the wrong kinf of horse for kids too! [uh,,,,,,,, I've kind of done that myself] however, I'm proud to announce the soon arrival of a well trained, quiet, confidence builder!

I also hate abuse and neglect. Like, please don't leave your horses shoes on for a year without a reset!!!!!
I know someone who buys horse after horse because they are cheap, then never cares for their feet, vet care etc. They just spend thier lives standing around in and of course, making babies!

Mine is people who *think* they know how to handle a horse and it's obvious they don't -- can't do it on the ground or in the saddle. I've had so many peoples' horses come charging up a hill behind me and run into my horse while trail riding... really ticks me off -- knocked my horse off the trail one time into a thicket of brambles and tore a hole in my saddle... These are the same folks who's horses typically have horrible ground manners -- and yes, they hand feed them all the time!

I agree with everyone else, you all have very good Pet Peeves.

My biggest Pet peeve (please don't jump me) Is the big groups of trail riders, that ride on the road don't respect cars at all. I'm very big about Pulling way to the side, going slow, or stopping all togeather, I make it a job to respect the riders on the road when i am driving because i know how it feels to have a driver zoom past you.

A had a big group of riders probably about 30 give or take. They were so disrespectful to me and most of them were DRINKING. I went slow, then stopped because i saw a few horses acting up, and wouldn't you know it five people put there horses in the middle of the road b***hing me out. I was so far to the side of the road and probably going as slow as my car could possibly go. They would not let me past till all the horses went past. I was furious, cause they continued to crab at me the whole time.

Lets just say the next day when they were out riding again and saw me on my own horse, they all shut right up and began apologizing , cause they knew they had been extremely rude to me for no reason. I guess they were getting sick and tired of drivers, can't blame em but i had basically stopped for them.

So after that long post, my Big pet peeve, Is other riders not respecting others, and same goes for drivers not respecting People on horses!

I cant stand when drivers blow a horn at you or stare at you NOT the road while driving past! Where I was living there were no real trails to ride, you were always next to the road. I had no choice but to be riding along side the highway. I hate it when the big truck drivers would blow their horns or people would stare like there was no end. Idiots, what if you hit someone! Thankfully all of my horses are well mannered in high traffic areas so loud noises and zooming cars dont bother them.

OO OO I have a few!

SNOBS - I don't freaking care WHO is on your horse's papers...you could be Doc Chip Zippo'd out the WAZOO and I couldn't give a Stop bragging about your horse, your saddle, your show record, what barns you have worked at, shut up and ride!

UNSOLICITED OPINIONS - If I wanted your advice, I will ask for it. I'm not too proud to ask for help when I need it, but please stop assuming you know more than me, therefore you must share your great all-encompassing wisdom. It's been my experience that those who know the least, do most of the talking.

LIARS - ever noticed how many of them are out there?

Give me a minute, I'll think of more...

I don't normally talk to common people like yourself, but in my opinion you gave your horse a stupid name. When I owned your horse, she had a much more appropriate name.

Does that cover it?

Or when they speed up real fast to get by you??
Where's the logic there??
I mean, lets get by the horse so it doesn't spook at the car, but accelerate so the car makes a different sound, and if it should spook, you'll hit it at a higher rate of speed??
How about trying to GO SLOWER!!

Face, You're kidding right?

Oh, and by the way, I know it's a girly name, but too bad...he doesn't know, and neither does anyone else around here. You should see them just try and pronounce it

NATURAL HORSEMANSHIP!!!!!!!!!!
Dont get me wrong..i KNOW there are people who do this and have wonderful horses and horses have great experiences from it..that is totally fine..
I agree, at the place I ride at there is a 14-yr-old girl who does this, and all she does is whip her horse.

Agreed. I also have to deal with this everytime I go out and ride. I would stop going, but I love one of his horses, and if I could I would buy her. Unfortunately, she was in foal this year and it seems like the colt has drained all the life from her, and she might die.

I don't think that the farm owner is cheap in anyway, he is just old and needs help because he can't do it himself. This is another peeve, If they need help, ASK FOR IT.

Edit: Also people who procrastinate on doing really important things until the last minute. For example: BO wanted to test horses liver function, and needed to get some things from the vet clinic at the University. I go to the university, why not just ask me to pick it up if you are too busy???

How about people who know and can see there horses are in pain or somethings wrong but refuse to get them medical attention..NOT that they just cant afford it, but that they WONT!!!

or people who neglect there horses hooves and in turn can ruin an excellent horse by not giving it proper vet and farrier care

orrrrrrr.....

riders or people who buy horses then realize its more work then they can handle and just put the horse out in the barn yard to fend for its self?!?!

My first one is people who let their horses rub them with their heads. They think it's cute..but it's really a sign of disrespect. I'm your rider, not your scratching-post!!

Second (like many people have said) is barn princesses and overall people who think they are better riders then they actually are.

Lastly is people who don't correct their horses. (Please don't kill me for this..) If a horse is constantly refusing a jump you can't just touch the horse with the whip, there has to be some force there (again, please don't kill me). Or people that let their horse run out and keep going without trying to stop them.

I just thought of another one...

People that honk their horns when they pass by you while you are riding outside in an arena. This happens to me all the time and the horse I ride is really afraid of cars. The honking doesn't help to say the least.

i toally agree. it kills me that these people don't even deserve one of these awesome creatures and someone like me who lives and breathes horses can only afford one. to them their just pasture ornaments and to me it would be like a best friend or cherished family member. ITS NOT FAIR!!

Most of my pet peeves have already been posted by everyone else!!! LOL

My biggest pet peeve is people who stuff their horses full of pain killers (bute the heck out of them) just so they can keep riding them hard for dressage and jumping, all the while stating that they can't afford to get another horse that is as good as the crippled one they have!!! RETIRE THE POOR THING, cripes they have worked hard their whole lives and deserve to be a pasture puff!

Drivers speeding past or honking horns is another one! Man oh man I cussed out and flipped the 'bird' at a rented moving van that drove by my horse and I and honked the horn twice. Turns out it was my boyfriend heading to our house up the road to start loading for our move. He said he had a brain fart and realized how stupid that was to honk the horn at us. He just wanted to say hi.....

And lastly, ignorant people that breed for no reason and then rough-house with the babies because it's fun and then suddenly realize they have a dangerous yearling that thinks its fun to rear up or kick at you. Seriously now, how stupid.

People who let their horses hang their heads out of the windows while driving!!

People who lunge the out of their horses then proceed to ride them for hours on end.

Some of the "natural horsemanship" people really send me over the top.

People who tack up their horses and ill fitting tack or those who don't get a horse properly groomed and prepared for the show ring.

If I go to a show and see "kinky" tails, I want to scream!

People who let their horses walk all over them and don't do anything about it.

People who let their horse rub their head on them after they take the bridle off (or anytime).

People who think that if they take a few lessons, they know enough to ride well enough without any supervision or instruction.

Dirty stalls, barns, tack and dirty aisles drive me nuts too.....
