Also, people who would rather blame their horse, than themselves, for EVERYTHING, without ever even considering that maybe they might try, or need to take a lesson
or 2 !!

Then crying when the horse flips over backwards when they yank and hang off the horse's mouth because some kid who actually takes care of their own horse beats them in Showmanship. Then the parent who goes and buys that kid another $20,000 horse because the first one must have been a bad horse. Whew.

People who are soooooooooo competitive that they are utterly unaware or uncaring that their horse is resentful...even while the horse is rearing at the gate to the arena. Dangerous, and blind. These same people are the ones who burn good horses out because they don't see past their own noses at the horse, or get it's opinion about things (by that I mean, if I am on a rearing horse who only rears at the entrance to the arena, I'm going to be getting the horse's opinion as to why that's happening...).

And abusers.

My pet peeve is people that go see a Clinton Anderson demonstration, buy a couple of CD's, watch Robert Redford in the Horse Whisperer, and abra cadabra...they know how to train a horse...

Yeah, this one should be popular My pet peeve is horse folks telling other horse folks that a horse has to be useful....how they would put the one with ringbone down.....how the old arthritic horse should be disposed of......how the one with navicular must go.....how much they love their horse but because it has been injured or whatever...they just have to sell it. The "disposable" horse people. Fine, if that's what you have to do, but don't try to make me out to be less of a horsey person because I happen to feel differently.

My horses are very useful. They make sure I add organic matter to my fields, keep me humble, and are usually available for a hug. I wonder if they find me useful for anything?

Oh, I have another one. No tomatoes, please.

People who think that one way is the right way for ALL horses, being it training techniques or farriery.

My biggest peeve about the horse industry is with the big, monied barns who treat their help like indentured servants. They don't want to pay a skilled horseperson what they're worth, even though the owners often-times are super wealthy. They take advantage of horse-crazy kids who only want to work with horses, and make them work unreasonable hours for garbage pay. Those places make me sick!

Another peeve of mine that I see here in FL is the way these riders dress. Yes, it's hot, but wear more than a bathing suit top, shorts and platform sandles please, especially if you're out in public. I mean, really, platform sandals? They say that God looks out for fools, drunks and those that know no better. Clearly that's true because I see the same fools all the time riding down a main road dressed like hookers and they haven't been killed yet!

Uh oh! You didnt see a girl with red hair riding a dun gelding or a sorrel appy in nothing but her shorts and bikini top out by the highway over the summer did you?

I totally apologize for what must have been a horrifying sight! Yes I have no shame and ride my horse to the local park to swim in Lake Broward during the summer months.

Here are mine:

People who don't take good care of their horse, and show up once in a blue moon and expect the horse to go out on a four hour trail ride.

The farriers who think hitting horse hard is okay (not a minor correction, which is fine, but a hard heavy blow).

Not taking care of the horse's feet. Picking them out regularly, making sure they're trimmed when they need it, shoeing if the horse needs it. No hoof, no horse!

Calling a full grown horse a "pony" in that babytalk voice. (Sorry. This one drives me insane.)

NH cultists who insist it's the only possible way to do things.

Oh no, it wasn't you! These 2 ride up and down the main road and they really do look like hookers. The sad thing is, they probably think they're pretty hot and they're not young.

I think my bigest pet peeve is people that own horses for status, for the fact that they just get to say they have a horse but don't do a bloody thing with them.

I totally agree with others who say people who don't care for or even see there horse except once in a blue moon. Seriously, if you can only visit your horse once every three months, maybe it is time to find another hobby

There is a lady at my barn with 4 horses who is just like this! But she resents paying for their hay, refuses to have them trained, they run around so wild you would not believe it. She won't take care of their hooves, she says they don't need it, and won't teach them to stand for a farrier because she won't pay for it. This lady won't groom them! Her horses look like wild things year round - full of cockleburrs and rough coats. But she LOVES her horses......

The farriers who think hitting horse hard is okay (not a minor correction, which is fine, but a hard heavy blow).

I fired my old farrier for throwing Ashen to the ground because she would not stand for him. She hated him for being rough with her and hitting her.

Not taking care of the horse's feet. Picking them out regularly, making sure they're trimmed when they need it, shoeing if the horse needs it. No hoof, no horse!

See above! The lady I know won't pay for farrier work, and won't train her horses so they can be picked. It is too much like work!

Calling a full grown horse a "pony" in that babytalk voice. (Sorry. This one drives me insane.)

I admit, I am guilty of talking babytalk to Ashen...just shoot me.

NH cultists who insist it's the only possible way to do things.

Any horseman who espouses any particular genre of training to the exclusion of all else is my peeve. Especially the old time cowboys who like to "beat the sense into a horse". I had an associate who I allowed to ride Ashen until the day I spotted him with a leather popper in his hand. I noticed it after Ashen threw the sucker off her -- the fool man must of tried to use it on her. I was so pissed I about took his head off. But I am just a silly female who doesn't know anything. That comment led quickly to me refusing to let him anywhere near Ashen again!
These are the things that tick me off royally.

Oh man... I have a few

Since I am a barrel racer, I hate people that buy there kid this $20,000 1D Barrel horse but yet the kid is 10 yrs old and cant begin to control this horse!

People that beat there horses with spurs and whips and are pulling there horse back as they run!

People that go out and buy there kid a $20,000 horse and the kids rides it 1x a month

People that own stallions and put them in with mares.. Uhh DUH!

People that keeps a horse a stallion when its a cross bred horse.

People that have a horse have it in training and they dont even ride there horse!

Mine are people that have QH's or any other breeds of horses. That just have to have FAKE TAILS on there horses! Don't they know that a true QH don't have very long tails to being with. I think they ever saw the QH named Bull Dog he has short tail. This year i saw a Palomino that had a short tail and the owner put a white fake tail on and it did not match at all . I say if it does match please do not put it on the horse it just makes them look ugly as .

My pet peeve is people who THINK they have all the answers.. you know, the ones that have only one discipline that is the right one, one way of riding or training that is the right one.. one way of feeding that is the right one.. You get the idea..
