New horse, new name

I just acquired a 3 yr old rose grey filly. She's so new she's not even home yet. Her name was "non Arab" so in corresponding with Scrapchick she came up with the name Zaira, I think pronounced Zay eera. It's a fine name and that's the one she'll get. Thanks Scrapchick.

I would have named her Baranon, but Zaira is good too.

Wasn't there a monkey named that in Planet of the Apes?

Just kidding...

Yes, Face, one of the female scientist chimps was named Zaira in Planet of the Apes. There is also a kids' horse story named The Horse about a horse loose in Africa living with Zebras, he was named Zara.

pics are definitely a must.

As you can see she likes her groceries. My camera doesn't pick up the reddish grey parts. She's far too tubby so will have to try to get her slimmed down a bit. No, she's not in foal.

Zaira is arabic for "Rose". Slim said she is a rose-gray arabian.

Congrats again, Slim!!

Very good. I think I can see hints in that photo where the rose is around her shoulders at least?

Once you get her working, she'll slim into solid condition. What potential she has!

What are your plans for this lovely girl?

Plans for Zaira? Heavens, you people are way ahead of me. I am planning on getting her home on either Sat. or Sun. She'll probably wind up a trail horse altho hope to put some good saddle fundamentals on her before the snow flies. I'd had a wonderful Arabian gelding that I used for kid's lessons and sold him at 23. Kids love the Arabs as they fulfill the dreams of little girls and are so kind and gentle and not too big. But that's further down the road.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. And a special thankyou to Scrapchick for the name. I'm one of those who likes to have an animal for a while before I name it so I'm surprised that Zaira clicked for her. I shall try to post a few more pics once I get "her tubbiness" home.

Zaira is home. Not good about loading but finally, then things got a little exciting until we got rolling. She's certainly a lady when she backs out. She's alone in the paddock and probably will be for the night. The boys can only come within 75' and are displaying uncertainty. They've moved farther away and she's been pacing and calling and eating.
