Getting the Keys and tip of FL.

Now unless you live at the tip, then yes its heading for you.

We have horse people coming up from the Keys starting tomarrow.

These dratted storms usually come to our shores after hitting other land masses and breaking up a bit. This Northern route sux-frankly.
I am not sure that it is heading for LA at this point but it is maybe narrowly skimming the tip of FL and heading into the Gulf.
It may hit anywhere in there-no real locked in predictions so far.
Here is the extended NOAA 5 day forecast

The hurricane center in Miami is still having us prepare heavily in Southeast Florida with evacuations and everything because even though the storm has dipped to the south the "dirty" side of the storm is on the northeast. It looks like it is gonna get pretty nast. They have said quite framkly at this point they don't know where it is going! That's comforting!

By that path, I wouldn't be headed back to New Orleans just yet.

Any time one of those monsters enters the Gulf and comes that path, we get hit with deluges of rain and wind. Gustav didn't bring heavy winds, so maybe Ike will be the same. But, if it's a Rita situation, I need to start tying stuff down!

Good luck down there, I'll be thinking good thoughts! Be safe!!!!

Well, its not in the Gulf yet, and in my experience in South Florida, when our newspeople are being as "shifty" as they are right now it is never a good thing! I don't thing they know where it is going right now.

You guys be safe in S. FL. My prayers are with you all. I lived in Orlando for 17 years and thankfully never had a BAD storm hit us. I'm a nurse so if something came our way we were on standby for the hospital, sometimes moving in our families. Still worried about pets and horses though.

My Mother, I worry about as well as my ailing brother and sister in Central Fl. It's hard to be so far away, but if they had to they can always come here.

Kanoo that is why I generally skip the local news and follow things on NOAA till it is about onshore.

Ya know, me too. I think the local news stations get commissions from the local home improvement and grocery stores b/c they scare the beegeebers out of you and put this 'doom' cone up that is aiming for their viewing area, then you go to NOAA and its totally a different story !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, but NOAA issued all sorts of warnings for North and East Texas when Gustav hit - we're talking warnings of gale force winds and up to 12" of rain. But, we got 30mph winds and spittings of rain for two days. Not that I'm not thankful for the reprieve, don't think I'm complaining!!!

I think they don't truly know until it gets a day out.

one is ok, two in a row is a drag..even I have my limits

Same here, our hurricane shutters are still on the back of the house since FAYE. Took the ones off the front windows so people will see the house isn't abandonded !!!! My tarp is still off my canopy that my trailer sits under and our spare gas cans are still full, propane still full, still got water and non- perishable food !!!!!!

i guess we'll have to wait a couple days to see whats going to happen. its going to hit that sweet spot in the gulf....darn

i feel for poor haiti...they have lost SOO many this season already.

these storms are driving me nuts this year! they are one after the other. can't we have a little break?

I hope that all of you guys stay safe! I can't believe that it's been weeks of hurricanes, it seems like this year they have just been one right after another.

I am with you barnbum2106....anywhere in the northern Gulf is too close for my tastes. After the last 4 years we are getting to be pros at this though...unfortunately. Eventually I know my luck will run out and I will have some real damage. So far I have been lucky. So until they figure it out, I will be watching Ike too!

I didnt do anything but sit inside during Fay and watch TV and surf the net. Went outside about 6 when all the rain was over and did my normal stuff. Just had a few dead palm frons laying in my arena. A TS is not enough for me to board up my windows. I know they are to protect them from flying objects. I have plywood for my windows if Ike comes our way to SW Florida. 100mph winds are enough to cover up the windows. I hope LA doesnt get hammered again. I feel so bad for the Hatians and Cubans. They were saying on the news about how one tree will soak up a bunch of water, but since the trees were knocked down, they had the flooding. Everyone be safe.
