I am moving to NV, anyone live near Fallon?

I am moving in about a month to Nevada near Fallon (Round Mountain to be specific) from Florida, can anyone give me any pointers on 1. transporting my horse 2. would you leave the horse here and wait until the winter is over (luckily I have that option) bring her out in the spring 3. any special changes I would need to make for her in diet, care, ect before moving her? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have been there before--but that doesn't really help you. I know the climate change will quite a shock regardless. If you bring your horse out this fall or next spring--you may have to blanket her at night for awhile until she gets used to thing. The days are hot and the nights are cold.

I figure blanketing her, putting a little extra weight on her would be helpful I suppose. I am concerned about her being bitten by a poisonus snake, (silly I know, it could happen where I live now) bears, and mainly mountain lions.

Since I have not been able to find a place to board my horse I am going to have to leave her behind, I am really sad and disappointed but the well being of my horse is more important than taking her on a long road trip. My son is happy though since she will be for him to enjoy.

Just came across this and am not surprised that you were unable to find boarding. Most people keep their horses on their own property. Once you get there you may have more luck finding a place to keep the horse. You are moving to high desert country. Probably in the mid 30's at night and seventies during the day. I know people who live there, but they didn't have horses when they left here.

Hope all goes well for you in Nevada.
