Trailer question

I'm in the market for a trailer (probably will go with a stock trailer). However, I'm sure on a size.

My main reason is that if I need to bail out because of a hurricane I can.

How many horses will a 16' hold?
a 20'?
a 24'?
a 28'?
a 30'?

For reference, I would be looking at putting a minimum of 3 full size horses and 1 12hh weanling. but could possibly have 5 full size horses, 1 weanling, 1 mini, and a donkey.

A 16' stock trailer with no dressing room/tack room will hold 4 15hand horses if it's regular width.

That same trailer will only hold 3 horses if it's a slant load with the front dressing room and slanted walls.

Figure another 4' for each horse in a slant load trailer.

If you have a larger horse I would consider an extra wide trailer. My 16'3" gelding has to be either loaded in the end slant stall or have a divider pulled out to fit him up front.

We were looking at a 26' stock type trailer with no dressing room. It would easily hold 7 - 8 full size horses and leave them plenty of room. The width is a consideration also. The wider a trailer is, the easier it is to fit them in, if the trailer is narrow it will not hold as many. If you are looking for easy in, easy out, incase of emergency, I would definitely get a stock trailer with cut gates.
