Ticks...

is it just me or are ticks and fleas running rampant this year! I'm pulling my hair out not knowing with to do.

Horses and dogs have been horrible this year. Today I found ticks in 2 of the horses ears. I had to twitch both horses so I could clip the hair since their ears were so sore. I was able to pull all the ticks out (including the heads) and I put swat on it to at least keep the flies away from the sores.

We haven't had this problem at all! This year is just ridiculous? Isn't there a certain fly or bug that comes around bad like every 7 years or so? Do ticks and fleas do this?

i know how to deal (and am dealing) with the dogs but the horses??? anything out there (that doesn't cost a fortune) to work on the horses.

Any of the oil based fly sprays will repel ticks, in fact, they do a better job of keeping ticks away than flies if properly applied.

The Absorbine flyspray in the orange bottle isn't quite as pricey as the others, works well and lasts about a week or so unless there are heavy rains and the horse is outside.

In Michigan, we get the ticks early in the spring/summer. They were horrible this year! I was pulling ticks off my dog every day even with using Revolution, which has never worked for ticks I have to say! The horses even had some on them, although not as many, only one here and there. They didn't attach themselves as well as on my dog and I pretty much could just flick them off. I found two on ME as well and let me tell you that I absolutely came unglued! Bugs don't really bother me but when it comes to ticks, there's something about them that just irks me!

I had a post in the regional forum about ticks.

We had ridden at our fav spot, the local state park, and we were absolutely covered in seed ticks.

Even the horses were miserable, they would just scratch and scratch their legs.
