Bees....

Apoligies if someone else has posted about bees. Last two nights out riding, we have come across bees in the ground, and boy are they angry when the nest gets stepped on My horse has gotten stung more times in the two nights, then in the past two years! Has anyone else come across the angry little buggers? I believe they are yellow jackets, and with the dry weather we are having in northern michigan they sure have been building there nest in the ground ALOT! I fortunately have only gotten stung once in the front of my neck of all places, and I sure have to say - I don't blame my horse for hopping around while they get stung, cause my neck got quite swollen, and I'm not allergic to them, thankfully...

Yes yellow jackets make their nest in the ground and are quite aggressive.I read the other day that if you get stung to tape a penny to the area for 15 minutes to stop the pain and reduce the swelling. I saw for myself when a friend of mine's daughter got stung and he applied a roll on deodorant and she stopped crying so it must work also thou I have not tried it.

Sounds like ground hornets. I was stung by one of those in my sleep-it flew into my hair, and when I woke up to the furious buzzing and tried to swat it away from my face, it stung my hand. OUCH. Swelled up to about twice the size, and I'm not allergic to bees.

I had to kill one that came into my room last night- they are MEAN little things!
