Paso people, help needed: Stormy gaits with 1 foot. *pics updated*

We bought Stormy because she is incredibly smooth, and she is such a sweet horse. She is half Peruvian Paso, half Arab. She is not fully gaited, but she attempts to do a scooping motion with her front foot.

Her problem is that she does the Peruvian scoop with one foot only. The other one just goes straight up an down. It is her front left that she scoops on. And it is a noticeable scoop, too.

Also...she has a splint on the right hind leg, the opposite side that she scoops. Is there a correlation?

I don't think that it is really good for her legs to only gait with one foot.

What can I do about this? Or should I do anything?

The scooping foot...

The non-scooping foot.

I uploaded a LOT of pictures and a slideshow to see her in motion for about 50 feet.

I can't take videos, but I do have a pro grade camera that can take a picture a second. I'll try that!

Try to get that flare off of the left front foot..........it will make her want to "wing" more, the right front doesn't have that. Her feet need to be evened up some. I doubt that the splin has any coorelation!

Ohh yeah, we called our farrier the day we got her (last Saturday) and told him to come out asap. He's coming tomorrow to do her feet.

I was kind of angry, the rescue we got her from hadn't done her feet in forever.

It may take a while to correct that and she may be in the habit of traveling that way now, since peruvians have termino anyway, and she is mixed she may be a little confused!

Mac has flares too, from not getting trimmed in years. I've had him for a year and they have gone down, but his feet are still noticeably flared. I'll talk to my farrier about hers tomorrow.

LOL she does seem a little confused, she has her arab moments, and then she has her paso moments. Her arab moments are when we are on trail and she spooks over a shadow, but I love her paso moments when I get her going at the trot, she extends her gait and just floats.

Even my vet said he had no idea what it was (but he did say that he graduated from the McDonald's drive thru of veterinary medicine, Oregon State University, so he could have missed something! )

Pasolover, I can definitely see your horses paddling vs. Stormy's, it is much more pronounced and on both feet.

Hopefully the trim will fix it!

Some horses have a certain leg conformation that causes them to paddle out with either one or booth legs. Are both of legs constructed the same?

I don't think the splint would affect it at all.
