Mini won't stay in pasture!! HELP!!!

We have a 7 yr old mini who refuses no matter what we try to stay in her pasture. We have added additional line, added a chain to her halter so it will hit the fence and bought an additional fence box and put just her pasture on it so the shock factor would be greater. We are at a loss as to what else to do. We are trying to sell her as now as we are at wits end with trying to keep her up. Just a few minutes ago the dogs were going nuts and I walk outside and here she comes back down the road with a guy in a jeep running her back down. He nearly hit her, but knew where she belonged and ran her back down. I have her out there tied to a tree until hubby gets home and he is going to be FURIOUS(sp?). Between her getting out and a new long eared beauty fixing to arrive(we are expecting our first ever little donkey baby) my nerves are just about shot. Anyother suggestions?? We don't have a corral to hem her up and our stall is occupied by our soon to be mother. Sorry for being so long....

Sounds like my full sized young quarter horse she's quite the excape artist, that wants in with the older gals.
But seriously, maybe you will want to check into page wire(?) that is approx. 2" x 2". Or something simular to that, apoligies if I'm of no help since I have not detered one of my own.

I would suggest panels. That is the only thing I have found that will keep my mini stud in.

We had 2 minis and gave up and sold them. Actually practically gave them away to friends who had more suitable fencing. Our hotwire just did not work. We added 2 strands - one 1/2 foot off the ground and the 2nd one foot off the ground in addition to the normal strands we already had up. That helped for a little while until they figured it out, but it might buy you some time. Other than that it would be making a temporary corral with small-hole fencing or something. Not sure what else to offer you.

I appreciate you guys help. We had actually talked about paneling, but since she is our only problem, it is not an expense that we can actually take on at this time. I guess I am just more venting than anything. She has just wore us out and having a hard time placing her. I just feel like I have to tell the potential owners about her and boundry issues. I would hate someone to get her and she get hit or worse. I have thought about putting her in with the cows but their fence line is up by the main road, and if she were to get out there it would be an even bigger mess, because they would surely follow her especially is she completely takes down the fence like she has in the past. i just hate that she is doing this. She is otherwise a good girl.....

could you just get enough panels to give her an area of her own, then you wouldnt have to do your entire feild and woudlnt be out to much money. Plus the panels are great for other things too, so they would of good use to you in the future........

I will check at TSC tomorrow and see what I can do a quarter of an acre for. We could always use the panel for other things as you said, and if it wouldn't be that big of a chunk of change-maybe we can do it... hubby just left from there getting other supplies-didn't think to have him check prices while there, gonna move mom to be this evening and put the little "brat" in the stall. That's the only thing to think of doing until tomorrow when we will have more daylight to play with.

You can just make her a small pen out of them as mini's don't need a lot of room. I bought the cow panels from TSC for 17.00 a panel and they are like 16 feet long. 4 panels would be plenty big for one mini.

Panels also go down as a cattle expense We bought enough at an auction to make a round pen, but the boys stole them for repairing a cattle yard, and making a loading chute.

Last year I had the panels during the summer and the cows got them back during the winter, they're great for making nursing pens or to put round a sick animal to keep them isolated.

I fell your pain. I have had alot of minis and they never gave me any trouble.
Until the past few years only one has been a trial for me to keep in a pen.
She will crawl out, go over, go thru anything. I threated to tie her to a tree and leave her there forever
I have panels so in she went with companions that I intentionaly let out to graze, Mrs. Smartie Pants stays in the round pen.
Even if I put her in with the stallion for breeding. she kicks him away and runs for the fence.
Anyone want her., let me know.
go on line to check prices at tcs. they are great for anything you need to keep seperate, and easily moved. worth the investment,

Well.....our problem has been remedied. Hubby was out there last night making a temp. fence just for her and she ran all over him. Today he is nursing a bad off shoulder and arm. He came in the house fit to be tied...I posted her out on Craigslist, and within 20min had three responses. After I explained in detail her issue with bounderies, only one was still interested. They came up today, took a look at her, I gave them all her papers and she is off for her new life on a farm farther off a main road than what we were. He was knowledgable about minis, so I think it will be a good match. I told them that if there were any problems to let me know. I just don't like to do what has been done to us on several occasions. I told him that I would take her back if needed, BUT I REALLY HOPE THAT THAT DOESN'T COME AND BITE ME ON MY BE-HIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow that was fast selling, I wish some of my horses sold that fast.
Good for you for finding her another home.

Hope her new home works out! It's SO frustrating when they are like that! My one QH has to be in a panelled or pretty solid/tall fence - even though she's lucky if she's 14hh, she'll jump out of 4' fencing no problem, is great at unlatching gates...all in all a trouble maker!

I took a huge loss on her...basically I didn't even get back what I paid the vet a couple of weeks ago...but in the long run that loss is a lot cheaper than being sued because someone hit her out in the road and totalled their car...Plus, I hope she will be happier where she will be. They really did seem like nice folks and they had a couple of kids that really wanted on so she should be getting a lot of attention. She wasn't a computer so my oldest son didn't care for her, my 20 month old loved her but she is really too young..

On the upside, another lesson learned. Hubby has proclaimed that there will never be another mini horse on this property, saying this as he winces trying to pick up a glass of tea. We are truely blessed with two of the prettiest set of long ears with a little one on the way....

Here is a picture of the little brat!! lol..the horse not the girl!! My little one just loved her...she would throw her corn like she was a chicken!!
