Question Does your horse stand in the rain instead of the barn??

OK, while its pouring rain outside and I see my soaking wet Gypsy out there looking like a drowned rat.......I was wondering if anyone elses horse will stand in the rain and get soaked rather than walk under the barn and stay dry...????? She doesnt look at all like she is enjoying it out there. She will stand under the barn all the time but when it rains she wont go in....what is her deal?

In a word, YES. And I don't feel bad for them one iota of they don't take the cover that is offered them.

My horses are free to come and go. My neighbor actually called animal control because I wouldn't go put them in the barn. If cover if offered and they don't want to take it, who am I to argue?

My colt is brain dead ike that, he will stand out in the worst of it and try to look pitiful. I don't buy it, they have 24/7 access to both inside and out. My neew mare on the other hand will hide in the barn at the slighest chance of rain, she is a Priss. The cow will stay out for a little then run in.

I think mine stand in the rain as torture to me. They get all wet, then roll in the mud, so I have to clean them up. Then it rains again, and it starts all over...........And now the 2 new rescues have figured this out as well. They just LOVE it when Mom dotes on them

Our horses have barn access at all times. They prefer to be outside in most any weather. The do go in to avoid the flys, but mostly stay outside.

Diego will not go out in the rain. I can tell when it rains at the barn because he will poop inside is stall instead out in the paddock like he normally does.

This is the horse that will go out of his way to walk around a water puddle. And yet he will play in the pond

Moontahr doesn't care. Usually he will stick his head outside of the stall when it rains.

Nope that delicate flower of the south heads to the barn when it rains..when it is too hot..when the deerflies come out..whenever.
That is why I giggle when folks say how cruel it is to stall horses.
I have to chase that mare out to go graze and 10 minutes later she is back in.

Nope they all stay out and get drenched. Free access to cover and the barn and they never use either.

I think my horses wait for it to rain. They stand inside till it rains then run out and play in it, then roll, then I have a huge mess to clean up, cuz onehorse is white and one is black, the brown ones it just blends in so its not too bad. oh well what can you do. I tie mine up when it rains at night though so that they arent't all cold in the morning. I will come out and they will be standing in the rain and shivering, DUH GET IN THE BARN YOU IDIOTS.

Mine have free access to cover also, but prefer to stand in the rain like a bunch of idiot turkeys! Funny story - once it was really storming, the two we had at the time were in under cover, but when we drove up to the barn they rushed out, froze with their legs splayed and wild-eyed, turned and rushed back in. In perfect sync I might add. They did that twice, then stayed in.

I have two run in shelters and the 3 dominant ones will stand under it but the other three wont go to the other shelter to stay dry. Its extremely irritating but I guess I shouldnt feel bad.

I guess mine isnt the only one who likes to be a drowned rat

you can lead a horse to water but cant make him drink and you can build a horse some shelter but you cant make him go in

None of mine will go in the barn when it rains either. But 3 of them stand under the trees atleast, and hunker down till the End. Kheiron on the other hand, stands out in the middle of the pasture, and totally treasures his Bath.
