I use the word rehome to mean the horse is for sale to a (hopefully) forever home. It is not a project or a flip.

it could also mean ...someone who sold a horse to a buyer...and the buyer couldnt afford the horse or had to send it back to the seller....they just need to 'resell' it again.....

so i was very serious about buying this stud colt.
When i first started talking to the lady online, the colt was for sale for only a $150 because she needed to get rid of him fast. So i was in the process of trying to accomodate him. A couple of days later i was showing a friend his ad and she bumped his price from $150 to $1750. I sat there in shock. Not only because it was only two days that had passed, but she said she doesnt even want him, could be registered but not guranteed. Sorry and i dont know how others feel about this, but im not about to pay that much for a horse that the owner doesnt want let alone cant guarantee paperwork. I know paperwork dont matter, i have a few grades myself, think there the best, but what burns me is the price jump. did she think that i didnt see the price or would still be willing to pay more for him. Honestly kind of seemed like a scam. you know like ohh these people are really interested so before they realize it ill jump his price and see if they will still go for it.
sorry i had to vent because it really chaps my a** when sellers try that.

I hear ya! I inquired about a horse, had a couple of emails go back and forth at 2500. I tried to make an appt to go see, and was told "the price is now 3500 because I didn't know he could jump." Well, h3ll, throw a Black Cat under ANY of 'em and they'll jump.....

Needless to say, didn't pursue.

Sorry to hear they're trying the bait & switch. Of course, you could proceed and just casually verify the price....because I'm SURE you haven't looked at the ad since you first saw it....

it jsut makes me mad, when here they say in emails that they have to get rid of him, or they will send him to sale because they dont do arabs only paints, so i was like let me try to accomodate him and ill get back with you. I went to show pictures and saw the price and like you i am no longer to pursue, because i know personally from going to sale houses arabs dont bring in that much, so if she wants to hold on to him then let her. I have him booked mark so i keep checking but im not going to let her know that i am that interested anymore. at least not until price drops

it just makes me mad when they are like i have to get rid of him . yadda yadda yadda. So i'm like cool then a few emails and pics later only to find out they jumped the price. I only did that once and that was i had a horse for sale, then had a summer worths of trailriding and training so of course naturally i will raise the price. not just because people are interested or like said alot of people interested.

Some sellers get rather greedy when interest is shown in whatever they are trying to sell. Had the same thing happen with a saddle. As soon as she got my email offering to buy, the price suddenly went up $250, even tho she'd talked like she was desperate to sell for several months. Price sat at that for 3 weeks, now she's advertising it for $150 less. She might have it a long time.

I once almost bought a horse that was advertised for "adoption" or re-homing on Craigslist for $1500. I went to look at him, fell in love with him, started to talk about purchasing him with the owner..... so I then wanted to confirm with her that his "adoption fee" was indeed $1500..... WRONG!! His price was actually $3500!! She only put the 1500 on Craigslist so her ad wouldn't get flagged because of the high price. It would have been nice to know this BEFORE coming to meet and falling in love with the horse. The owner sheepishly said, "oh, sorry, I thought I told you his actual price in one of my e-mails. I just didn't want my ad to get flagged off of CL"
