Squirrel tails?

I was grooming my girl today before my friend came out to put shoes on her for our trail ride sunday. She looks great except for the fact she has a really poofy tail! Now that she has shed off she looks like a gray squirrel! My friend told me to leave it alone but he likes horses with really long full tails until they start whipping him in the face Its not so much that it is really thick but at the top of her tail a lot of the hair seems like its broken or just doesnt grow as long as the others so it makes it look bushier. I tried putting oils and things like that to kind of smooth it but that doesnt seem to be working. Anyone have any ideas?

BTW Dandy did great with the farrier. She even got a little bored and started taking tools out of his box and even took off his hat a couple times. Hes a friend of ours so I thought it was kind of amusing.

Cowboy Magic works wonders. A Biotin supplement, maybe some corn oil, and a VERY VERY LOOSE tail wrap can help. Also, never use a brush on her tail - only your fingers. If you must, use a comb and very very gently work your way up from the bottom.

I use the cowboy magic detangler and shine on her. It helps but still looks like a bush lol. I always use a comb on her because I thought that is what was breaking it off. She is kind of a pain so im not sure if she would leave a tail wrap on but I might have to try that. It wouldn't bother me too much but my dad says she is squirrelly enough without looking like one
