Any experience with minnis and electric fence?

I own 3 miniature horses. They have access to a small pasture that is fenced in with safe horse fence. We have a lot of pasture ground with no fence put up right now. I have herd that electric fence should not be used for minnis and I would not want to do anything that might be harmful to mine. Anybody have any exprerience with useing it for minnis?

Minis can learn to respect an electric fence just like big horses. I have a friend that uses it when we are camping out or at chuck wagon races.

I've only had problems with electric fence with baby minis. One of my yearling babies touch the fence and it literally sent him sprawling But once introduced to it, they are very wary of it. I have half electric paddocks and half woven wire fencing. I just keep babies in the woven wire until they are big enough to withstand the shock.

I have an electric fence, however I made it so it's not as strong as a normal one. I really like mine, it's 2 strands of poly tape, which makes it much easier to see. My mini stays in with no trouble at all, it only took one shock.

I seen a mini in full winter coat that walked right through an electric tape fence didnt shock him at all. I reckon he had too much hair!! Or his brain didnt make any connections lol. I dont like the electrical stuff i know of a couple of instances where a horse got tangled in the wire. I know of one that was even shocked to death. Bob wire fences might cut them but they dont get shocked to death!!

With my minis i use nothing but a solid wire fence. I have to put a top strand of bob wire for the big horses to keep them from smashing the fences down. They never get cut on it as long as its there they leave the fences alone. Take off the top strand and they lean over the fence to eat the greener grass on the other side.

Course that dont keep their butts off it............

I have two minis in a pasture with electric tape. They are very respectful of it and it only took one zap. Now they know just how to tilt the head to munch that always greener on the other side grass and not touch that fence. Now it did take some convincing that it was alright for them to walk through the gate. The would walk and then plant their feet and look at that thing and say NOT GONNA DO IT. The lady that has a mini farm not far ffrom here has on pasture page wire fence but the rest is electric tape.
