No tail?

Something is up with Raine... where is her tail? Her mane is really thick and grows very fast. Yet, her tail is almost nonexistant! It barely reaches the top of her hocks and its very thin. Its the ugliest thing Ive ever seen.

I dont know where she gets it from. Her sire had a tail a mile long and just as thick. Sierra's tail wasn't as thick but certainly not like Raine's.

Is there anything I can do to help her along or is she destined to be "tail-less?"

She isn't pulling the hairs out or anything like that, its just NOT growing. I was told to go buy a certain conditioner for it that is supposed to help it grow. But do those actually work?

I guess she might be the only horse Ive ever had to use a tail extension on in a show.

Dexters has always been like that - and his mane is almost double what most maes are - I used to put a good conditioner on it for thin people hair and it did help - but most of it is genetics, so a good tail extension might be the answer!

My old Appy gelding was on Land O Lakes milk replacement pellets, not sure if they still exist or not. He was on them for his hooves but they also helped him to grow the most beautiful long, thick white tail. He had always had a long tail but never as thick as once he was started on the pellets.

Theres always Shapely's MTG, and although it smells like car gasoline, boy it makes manes and tails grow thick and long! It is great stuff, if you can stand the smell!

Its the Original M-T-G:

I want to see pictures! (please ). My appy mare doesn't have the genetics for a big thick tail but it was chewed off by a neighboring horse and now only comes to her hocks (when she's standing still!). I have pictures of her as a yearling and her tail is thin but about 10" below her hocks. It is growing but I'd like to have it as long as possible by spring for the beginning of the show season...

Shampoo for thin hair works by expanding the hair shaft so it looks like you have more hair. It's works pretty well for making it look thicker but unfortunately won't do anything for length.

Me too!!!

Looks like you will be in the market for a fake tail! There are some great places out there that make them. We had to buy our first one too! Mare tore most of her tail out on a bucket!
