Building a Round Pen

I am about to start building a round pen for my 2 year old gelding. I was looking forward to building one that's about 40 feet. Have I made the right decision being that he is young and unexperinced? He does seem calm and nice because a young man came out and rode him for the first time with no problem!!! I just want to see what you guys think would be the best size, height, etc. for him.

For riding a 60 foot diameter pen is a great size.

I would stay with a 60 ft round pen. I feel more comfortable and so do my horses. You may want to check out the price of wood these days
I purchased the cheapest panels at TSC for around $48.00 each, very fast, easy to put together and you can move it around all over if you need to. We are doing construction on our land and i get to move my round pen by myself at least once a month.

I went a little nuts when I bought panels and got enough for an 80 ft. round pen. I really like this size to ride in although it's too large to do ground work IMO. Of course I can easily take some out to do my ground work in. I do like having the extra panels for other things if needed.

I found a place here near Round Rock Texas-they made it custom and delivered it for 980 [galvanized 60 foot]
I HAD a metal panel one but the climate down here just plain ate it up with rust over 3 years.
I love the galvanized one and I had them make it in 8 foot panels. I have tendonitis and so these smaller panels are lightweight and even I can move them around easily.
They also fit over the fenders on my horse trailer so we can haul a few off when we go to shows and make a portable stall..

We put up a 50 footer with panels from Behlen Mfg. I'm wishing I had done a 60 footer. But we can just get some more panels to enlarge it. I have a freind with a 90 footer. Nice for riding, but way too big for the off line round pen work.

We have a 60' panel round pen. I like the flexibility of moving it and adding to it if I want. We bought ours through Southern States and got a great deal.
