how much does the HYPP test cost?

I think I saw the answer on the boards earlier but I didn't pay attention, so quick question: how much does the HYPP test usually cost?

My mare's an unpapered qh, what is the likelihood of her being n/h?

I'm thinking if I ever want to breed her I shouuld get the test, just to be sure.

If she is unreg. are you sure she has impressive in her bloodline? If she doesn't have impressive you have nothing to worry about. It is definatly worth testing her though. When I bought my mare I also had the seller sign a paper that if she was N/H that he would buy her back because I was buying her for a broodmare and didn't want to breed a N/H horse.

I guess my point is that since she's unregistered, I have NO IDEA what she has in her bloodlines. Probably just a bunch of other "worthless" unreg "quarter horses" and maybe an Arab or two (I swear she moves like one)...but, eh.

I guess I'd probably do the test if I planned on breeding her.

No one has told me how much it costs yet though.

Don't say "worthless" Some of the best horses I have ever been around have been grade. As long as you love her who cares if she has papers or not. If you feel the need to test its $50 and you just send some mane or tail hairs by the root. I got my mare's results back in about 2 1/2 weeks.

I definitely don't think she's worthless! I was being a bit snarky..hence the quotes. Honestly, my horse is the best horse I've ever ridden (and I've ridden a lot of them--expensive horses, registered horses, show horses, blah blah blah). I love her to death. Personally, I think it's more fun that she doesn't have papers...that way I can speculate on her origins (I really don't think she's full qh).

Quarter-Arab crosses make nice horses. My first horse was a Morab. She was 20 yrs old when I got her. I had to 5 yrs when I lost her to severe colic She was the most mellow horse I have ever owned. I don't have any Arabs now but I get real defensive when people say they are spooky and crazy. I always just say "They are spirited." Of course the mare that I took the blow from tonight (See post-flying hooves) is a little Arab mare. She sure is beautiful when she isn't kicking me across the barn.
