I don't know what type of wood to use as I build a barn . I read that some horses have bad reactions to certain types. What type of wood do I avoid and what wood should I use?

If you are talking about stalls, We have 2" rough oak in our stalls. the horses can kick it and it doesn't move! Just make sure that when you're building the stalls, make sure it's wet because once it dries, you'll never get a nail through it!
Black Oak is the only one I have heard of as being a bad one to use with horses (can be toxic if they eat it). And some pressure treated wood can have arsenic in it, so you do not want to use it were kids will be in contact with it (it will leach through the skin).
Good news-they have changed the formula and pressure treated wood no longer has arsenic[generally..ask your lumber guy, some companies are slow to get with the program but it is available]
Our barn is a pole barn with rough cut oak. It works like a charm. ^^ you can buy it for really cheap for a lining then put in treated for the outsides. We did layers. One was rough cut, then a few treated, and so on. I would suggest putting a little venting on the wall of the stalls (if they're facing outwards like ours.). Maybe half a foot-9 inches. It works really nice.
DOH I forgot EA-please let me know what you find
