Help me find a name for my new horse!

Well, technically it is my daughter and my horse. We need name suggestions. So details on the "new" horse - (we think we're going to buy it. since this horse is everything we want.)

- Pure Thoroughbred
- Sweet, calm, cute, gorgeous, loves kisses.
- Jet Black (like black, literally.)
- He is a jumper / trail horse for my daughter and I
- Gelding. (he is very polished looking. and acts like a gentlemen.)
- 16.2hh , 10yrs old.
- We want a name that fits him. He does not have a mean bone in him.

So names suggestions from people so far :

- Lancelot (Lance for short)
- James Bond (LOL )
- Black Magic (magic for short)

Does anyone like any of these or have there own? We need a name for this guy.

I personally think you should wait and name the horse after you've been around him for awhile. A horse has a way of naming themselves. When I purchased my mare, she had the name Toy, don't know why. I kept calling her that until I had to start cleaning her stall myself (went from full boarding to barn manager) and then I started calling her elephant, cause she pooped so much and so big! Anyway, Elephant then became Ellie and that is what she answers too now. Strange thing is, she never responded to Toy, but comes running to Ellie.

Amicus is Latin for Friend; I like it for a sweet horse. Koda is Sioux Indian for "friend to all"(And also what my daughter named her new pony). "Nightsong" is formal sounding, but goes with his color as well as his sweet disposition.

Congrats for finding the right horse! I knew we found the one when we were suddenly looking for names.

humm, looking at him from your picture. I don't know why, maybe it's the long, long legs

Dancing with a Star. (Sort of play on words on that tv show)

How about Sirius Black, from Harry Potter. He was actually a very loving character.

Does he not already have a name? I usually hesitate to rename my animals (have always adopted rescue dogs/cats) since if they have a name already, I don't want to make the transition to my home even more stressful, by also using a new name. I figure if I make the sound they already associate with themselves, it will be ONE thing that remains constant during that transition period. I would have figured the same would apply for a horse. I.e., when I got my horse late last year, it didn't occur to me to change his name since that is who he IS....

Well this horse does not respond to his name. You will say "Beau" (pronounced Bo), and he doesn't even look at you. So my daughter decided we might as well change his name. It is mostly her horse so she can do what she wants with it. Plus Beau does not really fit this horse.

--- My daughter and I have narrowed it down to 2 names. ---

Magic at Midnight (midnight or magic for short) OR Night Eagle (wings)

Etoile de Nuis

It was the name of the navigation system on the VIA trains if I remember correctly. I always wanted a big black horse to name that, basically "nightstar"

Instead I ended up with a big sooty palo who came with the name Mylie, which I kept.
