List for New Horse Owner

My new to horses 60 something cousin in law is getting her first horse. She is going to put it on her property behind our house. Her and her friends are getting three free horses, a 5 year old, a 7 year old and a green broke horse. They recently started riding, going up to a cattle ranch and riding some of the horses there.

I want to make her a list of responsible horse ownership items like:
fly control
deworming
shoeing (or trims)
vet care (vaccinations)

Any other ideas??

Thanks for the trainer idea. If I had known she wanted a horse, I certainly would of helped her find an older, trained, steady eddy horse.

I hadn't thought of lessons - thats a great idea, she could take some lessons with a trainer. I'll add some trainer's names to the list.

Its just that horse care is so second nature to me now, that I don't know what a new person needs to know or have in their tool box.

First aid kit
Properly fitted tack
Proper fencing(electrics a good idea especially if any of these horses are hard on fences)
grooming tools
hay
grain(if any of the horses are hard keepers)
lessons
Equine books(the vet handbooks etc are always good and any books on proper horse care especially the ones that are aimed at beginners and people who keep horses on there own property)
Shelter
Not sure where you live but depending on your winters water heaters for the water tub
As you said vet and farrier
Numbers of horse people they can contact if they need help with something that doesn't involve a vet/farrier
Blankets are always good to have on hand if the horses are kept out 24/7

Thats all I can think of for now

Call the local horse vet and have them keep information about address, persons who own horses , horses names and descriptions, and directions to house , also list names of responsible people and vet number on the wall in the barn,

Thanks all for the suggestions. What makes this hard is my horses are currently on her property so they have to move.

Love Miss Tilly by the way!
