what should i do?

the owner of the place i board at keeps trying to sell my horse to i visit her every wekend for about 5 days and while i am here i go see her everyday im here and ride her. i only go home for probly 4-5 days and come back to visit my parents and my horse. my father goes and sees her probly once a week but doesnt ride he just lets her out to run so she is in no way neglected. we keep watch on how much food she has so she is never out of food and the owner is in charge of feeding watering and cleaning stalls twice a day but atleast twice a month there is some one calling my cell phone asking about the mare i have for sale which always surprises me cause y would i be selling a horse i love so much? i always am like wat horse? i dont have a horse for sale. and they say wat about the bay arabian mare at so an so's can i talk to her owner and im like i am her owner she isnt for sale. i always seem to get around the same response. well so and so says that you are selling her cause you dont have time for her now that you have started college which i have been going to college for almost 2 years now and hve never once thought about selling her ir leasing her out since i see her about half the time and if im not there my father sees her atleast once that week. she has even told my farrier that he doesnt have to trim my horses feet atleast once before because i had found her a new home and i wasnt gonna need him. well i have asked my parents a few times before if they told her that tahani was for sale because they take care of all of my expenses including my animals while i am in college and they have threatened to sell her if i didnt do this or i didnt do that. which legally they can because she is still in thier name so if they wanted to sell her and not tell me they could they have always said no why do i want to sell her and my answer is and always will be ofcourse not, she is my baby. i have told the owner of the stables multiple times that my horse is not for sale or lease and please dont have people call us for info on her. but just last night i got another call about her asking if they could set up an appointment to come see her and test ride her. what would you do? i cant move her because she is the cheapest facility around and all we can currently afford and like i said i have told her she isnt for sale but she still seems to be telling people she is so please give me any advice you have. it will be greatly appriciated.

i forgot to mention that she is like 80+ and she doesnt like people under the age of 30 because she still considers us children so i would like to be able to be as respectful to her as possible so i can keep my horse there.

If I were you I'd be on the lookout for another place that I could afford and move her ASAP. Other than that maybe have your parents talk to her about it and explain the horse is not for sale.

Good luck...must be very frustrating!

If she has papers why is she still in her name. and do you have a boarding contract, sounds to me like this place is minding your business and not their own. as long as board bill is paid they can not say a word, and someone needs to tell the bo to butt out,
perhaps finding another place to board. and please if she stays get it in writing that the horse is yours, and an agreement in writing.
all to often things that are said verbally are always misunderstood,

I would recommend looking for a new place, or do as what was said before, get something written and signed so that the barn owner doesnt verbally twist the words around. And if she doesnt like the younger crowd maybe have your parents, the owners of the horse, approach her and have it signed

Im sorry that your going through this that would be very aggrivating!

Ditto, and try to straighten up the paper situation asap, cause if lady is 80 something, and you do manage to stop her verbally telling people, she may just sell outright, you'll go and mare will be gone....... worse case scenario of course, but it does not seem to be rational behavior she is showing, and you don't know what may happen...... I would move mare asap.... any way possible

no we dont have a boarding contract. we just pay her 40 dollars a month to board her there nd for her to make sure she if fed watered and herstall is cleaned twice a day. my parents have the papers to my horse not the bo so there isnt a problem with the papers it makes me ask my parents if they are elling her without my knowledge because they can legally sel her since legally they own her and pay her bills while im in college. she was a sweet 16 / graduation gift to me almost 3 years ago. so she is my horse but my parents help with her. i agian told her 2day that she wasnt for sale after he told me about another person who wants her.

You are getting off pretty cheap. Why not take the BO out for lunch and make her feel a bit special. Then reopen the topic of not sending potential buyers your way. Perhaps she gets tired of the inquiries and finds it easier to redirect them. Some people don't understand the word no and just keep pushing.

Hi #1 NEVER board without a contract........ even if she (B/O) does not have one for you you can write up a simple one (1 copy for you and 1 for her) with fee and what it is for ( hay stall cleaning grain ect.) When payment is due OWNERS of horse and barn (property) or if it (barn) is leased out or has a barn manager all 3 sign and date . #2 at 80 she might be a little confused at times or heard something and is holding onto it sorry for offending any seniors but it would concern me that she keeps on about it and still sends people your way wanting to buy after you've told her she is not for sale, I would also have your parents tell her maybe she feels your not the real owner so have no real say But you are lucky that so many want to buy her j/k good luck and keep tabs on her as much as possible.

ive owned horses for ten years and never even heard of a boarding contract. never had 1 we have had contracts on leasing our horses out but never on boarding. didnt even know i needed 1. i dont think that she doesnt consider me the owner since even though my parents take care of all of her needs i have always been the one with the check in my hand and handling all of the horse related things personally. so when something happens usually she talks to me about it. that is why when people call for info on her she gives them my cell phone number opposed to my parents home number.

i thought of that but it is more like a ranch than a barn so it would blow away with the wind that comes in the fall and winter. and i cant move her since there is only 1 more place to board and they charge 200 dollars a month for the same situation i am paying 40 dollars a month for. plus hay and the farrier every six weeks.

The sign on the stall door is a good idea I thought stalls were cleaned 2x a day does she get her own stall or a differnt one every time she comes in for the night and or grain?? Otherwise I don't know what else you could do If it was me I'd move. Did you ever ask her why she keeps trying to sell her?? Is she being good there.

$40?? Wow...

Maybe she is trying to get rid of you so she can bring in someone else at a higher rate???

But really, for $40, get a contract that says she isn't allowed to show your horse to people/sell her.

Then, don't worry about it. A phone call every now and then is worth the $160 you are saving.

I know that isn't a good answer, and I wish I had a better one. I would save move but other people have suggested it and I understand it isn't practicle.

I really don't have a good answer

I would move the horse...but at the very least get a boarding contract. I would be worried that the BO could come back and say that you owe her more for caring for the horse at just $40 a month if you don't have a contract stating that amount.

I would discuss this with your parents and let them speak with her. I know that you are the one she contacts, but if as you say she considers young people "children", then she may accept instructions from your parents better then she will from you. I would also wonder if she's having some mental confusion issues as well? Who actually does the barn labor? If she has a regular full time barn "manager" it might be worthwhile to speak to them as well.

so, you makke a sign out of WOOD..not paper, and it won't blow away......and you take 4 SCREWS, and attach it to the front of the stall door.......that way it is easily removed without doing damage.......

and you put your name, and your horse's
name on the sign, stating that she is NOT for sale........
