Exclamation Anyone out there from Nebraska?

I know we have a few people on here from NE and I would like your help. What's the average cost for board and what does that include? Is turnout usually extra or included in the price? Are there a lot of boarding/training facilities?

What is the average price for training?

What is the average price for lessons?

What are the average vet costs? Shots, Coggins, Farm calls, etc.

Whats the average cost for a farrier? Trim? Shoes up front, shoes all around?

Any other info you can provide would be wonderful.

Lopin, are you thinking about moving down here? That would be so cool. We don't have many saddlebred trainers here and the top one in this area are getting old. Jonnie is 65 and her husband is 86.

Boarding and training facilities are closing down in this area. If you want, I can PM you Sheri's number and you two and talk. She can answer most things better than I can. She can answer the farrier costs for shoes and pads.

Lessons right now run from 25 to 60 an hour. Let me know and I'll get you Sheri's number.

Hi Lopin,
I am from the Omaha area not far from Tuffsmom so my answers are pretty close to hers.
I have noticed a lot of smaller "family" type barns like mine are now taking in a few boarders to help with horse costs.
We have 8 stalls and an indoor round pen. 100x200 outdoor arena and cattle on hand in the summer. We charge $200 per month and I turn the horses out either overnight or during the day. We do have pasture for the old retired guys too. They come in overnight usually too.
The bigger barns with nice indoor arenas range from $300 to $600 per month.

A friend who is well known in AQHA trains for $600 per month, minimum of 3 months. I have seen others advertise less but I don't know any of them.

Lessons are anywhere from $25-50.

I use a vet from Fremont, NE which is about 25 miles away from my place. He charges $35 farm call, Shots this year were $85 per horse. It was $125 flat charge for an emergency night call to put down my old gelding when he colicked. The vet just down the road 3 miles also charged our neighbor a $35 farm call charge. He has a new building with surgery & recovery facilities but I (fortunately) haven't had the need to use him yet.

My farrier charges $32 to trim, $75 to reset all four and $85 to put new shoes on all four. I don't recall what he charges for shoes on two.

It's a thought, I don't really *want* to, but I want to keep that option open. I did get the PM with Sherri's number, thank you.

Seems like the costs are about the same as they are around here. Thanks.
