Washing a saddle pad?

I have a saddle pad like this.

It's Australian sheepskin with a quilted top.

How would I go about washing that? Could I put it in the washing machine under delicate or should I hand wash it? It's kind of funky and I'd like to clean it up a bit.

I don't know, does it have washing instructions tag on it ? if not I would try to contact manufacturer of it, and see what they say, I'm always leary of trying something and ruining it, as good pads can be so $$$

Try a hose with spray nozzle on it just to break up the dirt and hair.

I use liquid dove baby soap and the local car wash to do my pads. I hang them up on my old pair of booster cables and rub the soap in then pressure wash it out. I squeeze as much water out as i can them let them hang dry outside.

Works really well for me

I would hand wash it with Melp. It is made to clean sheepskin.

I would call the manufacturer and ask them, just to be on the safe side.
I've washed sheepskin seat savers in my washer before, they were fine after they air dried, I just brushed them out with a hairbrush.
Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.

Yeah it was expensive. Over 150 dollars when I bought it.

I was wanting to get it washed up by tomorrow afternoon around two. No tack shops anywhere near me, and I didn't want to wait for shipping for a product to actually clean it.

Down Unders web site suggests hand wash with a gentle wool cleaner such as Kookaburra Wool Wash, which they also sell, $10.95 for 16 ozs. , and air dry out of direct sun. I sure like the sound of the Kookaburra stuff., AND it's made in the USA, shocking . You spent a lot on a quality pad, I'd be careful how I washed it. If it HAS to be clean for tomorrow, I'd go with something very mild and rinse well, wrap in a thick towel to squeeze excess water out and air dry. Don't know if it'll be dry by the time you need it, though.
