My Neice is going to College next fall

And Auntie LadyAshen as been busy!

I bought her a good durable used laptop [Toshiba Tecra] and mini computer organizer [NEC MobilePro 900C].

When my little Shaina actually goes to college, she will take with her my HP printer/scanner/copier; cause I want an all in one wireless printer with fax.

And...............Auntie LadyAshen is in full charge of decorating Shaina's prospective tiny single dorm room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You guys know that I will have a ball!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have it all planned out.

From my huge furniture stash, will come:

a white wicker wall mirror, white wicker wastebasket, and white wicker toiletry carrier

a daybed

under the bed, for more storage

storage/end tables

For Shaina's TV, stereo, and books.

Since Shaina does not study at a desk, I will buy this table and add on casters.

I have bought yards and yards of this 100% cotton brushed twil fabric. I will make daybed covers that go on like fitted sheets, bolster covers, and floor pillows out of it. The square flat floor pillows will act as guest seating or if put together a place for a friend to camp out in the tiny space.

I already have this fabric to make curtains and pillow cases.

Over the bed, on the wall will be this wall lamp with pink shades. I will paint it to match the curtains and pillowcases.

In the closet there will be a hamper like this one I have to buy.

And there will be a small 4 by 6 wool needlepoint rug that will be easy to clean.

Have I forgotten anything? Do you think Shaina will like it?

Oh WOW, as someone in college, I can really appreciate you doing that for her! You are being sooooo sweet and kind! I bet she will love it! And I really like that bed. How very nice! Makes me wish you were my auntie, too.

LadyAshen,

I work at a college with dorms and I hate to bust your bubble but you might want to wait till you see the room before you decorate it. Dorms come furnished to some extent. There are some things you'll be able to put in there but the bed and armoire are not going to be going. You may be able to fit the chair and end table in but mostly, decorating a dorm consists of area rugs and photos on the wall. Now, if she rents an apartment, you can go nuts decorating it.

Thanks David, but I know this college rules. You can remove the furniture the dorm comes with if you store them and replace them when the school year is over.

My sister lived in the same dorm as my niece is going to live in. Different colleges -- different rules.

I will buy a mini fridge and a compact microwave oven for my girl! Pink towels, pink plastic dishes & glassware, and stuff like that.

Honestly, I have a mini fridge and a mini deep freeze and I love them both!!!
