TSC has $2 off coupon for Nutrena/Purina

TSC is now selling Nutrena and Purina feeds. They have a $2 off introductory bag coupon. Just thought I'd pass that on!

I saw that to...I hope the the prices are better where you guys are though~~~I think it was 15something at TSC here for safechoice. Even with the coupon I can get it three places I know of for cheaper!

Even if it's more it's nice they have it b/c of the hours they are open incase of an emergency.

I agree but maybe your local store will honor the coupon (kinda like Wal-Mart honors others advertised prices)??? No TSC near me though....

Safechoice is 13.49 a bag here which is cheaper than our local stores.

BarnBum-Seminole is great but we can't get it here

TSC will price match and more that likely if there are that many stores that sell it cheaper they will probably lower their price if they get a lot of price matches.

I think it's pretty -y of Purina to cut the throats of all their loyal, local, small stores and mills by selling to TSC, jmho. I'll be using our local Purina mill for Purina products, and stick only to buying Dumor/Producers Pride from TSC.

However, for those that do start buying Purina at TSC - TSC should price match any verifiable price in the area on the same UPC code. (They may have to be able to call the competitor to verify it first.) But it is in their policy to price match, even if it isn't advertised.

We only have 1 local feed store(kinda a feed store but not really a feed store) that sells Nutrena and he goes and buys it from another feed store about 40 miles away.....so we get a double mark up on it.

It all comes down to the power of the all mighty dollar.....Yes TSC's policy is to price match any competitor and they do have to call and verify the price and that the product is the exact same thing...they do this with any product not just horse feed.

We do not have anything other then a TSC or Runnings Fleet Farm type store to buy it from. No mom & pop or mills around. That said, it is usually 13 a bag here- was on sale last week for 11.84 a 50 lb bag of life choice, wish I could of bought more then I did for that price!

Look at the $2 off coupon closely - you can use it for up to 10 bags.

Even with the $2 off coupon, the prices at TSC are still not competitive with my local feed mill, so they can keep their new feed :P

My local TSC (well kind of, over 100 miles away) has Nutrena Equine Senior Priced at $18.99, take $2 off that and it's still not even close to my local feed mill's (well kind of, again over 100 miles away) price of $13.49 a bag. Also, life Design Prime (12% sweet feed) by Nutrena is $13.99 at TSC and again $9.99 a bag at the local feed mill.

TSC isn't doing me any favors. They only thing I buy there anymore (used to but it all there until the local feed mill guy told me flat out he beats their prices to death all day long) is Max-E-Glo because my local feed mill doesn't carry any form of rice bran.

All of my feeds I buy from the Mom and Pop place now.

For the most part, I feed TSC's Generic "Sweet Feed" made by Feed Solutions - since it is primarily a pellet, with a hint of oats and corn.

Bella was feeling bad about eating the 'nappy tasting pellets' instead of the 'super fun sweet grain' that everyone else got... (She couldn't get their feed, since she has that really bad underbite, and their feed was primarily sweetened grain.) - On the generic feed, she can easily chew her food, and still gets the 'sweet'. And, since all of my (big field) girls eat it now, there's no more 'but, mom, she got something better' looks from the herd...

(Lonely and Toby eat a Mare & Foal feed, but the others can't see that it is different - shhh - don't tell them).

The things I hate MOST about TSC (and have always hated, even while working for them) are:
- you have to watch their stock to ensure it's rotated and fresh.
- you never know how long that bag sat in the plant then the store before you got it.
- if it comes from the DC, it could have been palleted next to a pallet of pesticides, weed killers, or automotive oil on the delivery truck.
- and THE WORST - just when you get your herd hooked onto something that only comes from their store, they either stop carrying it, or they run out completely with NO IDEA when they'll get more.

For 2 weeks, they've been out of my generic sweet feed - all over the area, not just one store - so the DC must be out...meaning you have to wait for the mill to send it to the DC, which in turn distributes to the stores.

So, do they compensate by stocking up on the 'next best thing'??
Of course not - they have now run out of the next bag that I have been using temporarily...

Do they think ahead to compensate for the demand on that product, too, by ordering the next step?
Nope - they didn't learn their lesson the first time... So now, not only are the local stores out of the Generic, they are out of the next two types that are reasobably close enough to substitute with.

The stores CAN control their stock by overriding what the computer orders, and ordering extra for the times the computer can't calculate that a demand will be increasing.

The problem is, finding a store with a manager/assistant manager who has the brains to think about supply and demand (and the 'what if the DC is out, too) factor.

Sorry... little rant there... I'll get off my soapbox now.

Just a quick clarification...TSC is selling NUTRENA, not PURINA...definitely different, and I know you meant NUTRENA...but just clarifying for those who didn't get it...actually, they probably sell purina stuff too, but this thread was about the addition of NUTRENA to their stock.

Oh, and I agree...support you locals...they are the ones who can give you personal service, and they will let you pay for your feed next friday when your horses are starving...I worked for our local feed store whenthey went on vacation, and they were fantastic to their clientel. I new they were nice to me, but they were great with people who didn't have any money and were out of feed.

TSC has $2 off coupon for Nutrena/Purina

Well, at our TSC in Cedar Park, they now carry both Nutrena and Purina products. They have dropped some of the Dumor, though, and Platform feeds, because they weren't selling well, and they didn't want feed sitting around for months unsold. In their opinion, unsafe as well as a waste of space. They can't keep Safe Choice in stock much of the time, even though they sell it fifty cents higher than the local feed store up the street. The other place took those coupons, though, while they were good, as well as the coupons that were in the Safe Choice bags that just expired on the 31st.

I still shop at all three places. I know both keep their feed fresh. I do try to shop at our local two stores, because they have hay and fresh alfalfa, while TSC only carries bagged/dry products. TSC may have lower prices on some products, but the feed stores can be cheaper on several, and often have Safe Choice or Strategy or name brand wormers when TSC runs out.

I say support them all. It really does help when TSC is open while our local feed store takes a one-week vacation, for example, or refuses to take a credit card on a less than ten dollar purchase when that's all you have until payday, and they don't throw your feed on the ground, as if that proves they are macho. Sorry, but I have more respect for a place that acts as if getting feed dirty is a problem, and keep it off the ground, and immediately give you a discount if the bag is ripped to get it out of the store, not charge you the same like our local feed store will.

I understand they need to make money, but I've been in business for years myself on a small scale, and you can always write off a loss. You can't write off money you don't make. Customer service is a huge deal at my part-time job, and I know in a corporate place like TSC it's important, too. I feel more local feed stores and hay growers around here could learn something from taking some basic customer care courses. I put up with all the nonsense, though, because I want to take the best care I can of my horses, though. Sorry, but more money in my pocket and/or better feed in their tummies means more cash for emergencies in case something ever goes wrong. Thankfully, that hasn't happened yet.
