I had that problem, too. I'm happy to say that FINALLY, after stirring every day, that mine is now a lumpy, sludge-y consistency and much easier to work with. I'm quite happy with the job it does too.

Just wanted to check in to see how everyone likes the laundry detergent. I finally got mine made a few weeks ago and so far so good. I washed a load of my kids filthy play/work jeans and it did as good as the detergent I had been buying.
Can't beat that,, especially for the price

Been using it about a month now, and am really pleased with my wash. Acutally, the clothes that come off the line aren't hard and crunchy anymore and even the towels are fluffy, so I'm thinking it must be rinsing better.

I was wondering if anybody has put pure vanilla in the soap . My husband wants to try it. So the soap would have a aroma to it. Any other strange ideas .

So, how many of you who tried this once are going to do it again?

Just curious. Also, does anybody use front loaders?

I spent $40 last week on Tide. Real eye opener.

I'm almost done my first batch and am for sure going to make another. I love the way my clothes smell and the towels are so soft.

I'm almost finished with my first batch too and just bought more bars of soap to make more. It's saving me a lot of money and is cleaning our clothes great. My 11 y.o. son has some skin sensitivities and this detergent has been just fine for him.

We have gone through several batches, and we LOVE this soap! And the kids love to MAKE the soap

We use a front loader and have had no problems.....It sure has saved us lots of money!

We are on our second batch, and I love it. I have told most of my friends and family about it, and we are all loving it! I think we are going to put the detergent companies out of business!!

As I read this entire thread, I had two thoughts, 1) gotta try this and 2) if everyone did this think of how many plastic laundry detergent bottles we would be keeping out of the landfills!!! Aside from the money saving aspect of this idea, I love the 'green' part even more.

I couldn't agree more! I'm tryin' to do my little part and convincing everyone I know to try it...I now have my instructor using it, my co-workers, my family, most of my friends, and my in-laws... The only trouble I'm having now is where to store it, I've given all my jugs away for "samples" and I'm not buying anymore. I'm now storing in milk jugs...

I'm on my 2nd batch, too. The only bar soap I had on hand was Dial so I used that. This time I grated the bar much finer which took a little longer but melted down in 5-6 mins compared to the 1/2 hour it took the 1st time. The whole job took maybe 15 mins, start to finish. I'm very pleased with it and am sharing it with everybody so I'm going through it faster and still saving money.

I made mine yesterday and used it today for the first time. I added 1 cup of borax and a cup of Dawn to mine.
I stuck the 5 gallon jug in the laundry room and dip it out with a ladle.
Perfect measure for a load.
Anyone use this in a dishwasher?

I just wanted to report that I used Irish Spring soap the last batch, and I'm not very happy woith the results...clothes still smelled sort of dirty after washing. I bought Fels Naptha for the next batch, and am going to try it. I will report back after I use it...good luck everyone, and keep on tryin' stuff...

i just made up my second batch. I love just using the Ivory soap. Everything smells so clean and I don't have to use fabric softener either. Did anybody else notice that the towels coming off the line are nice and soft, instead of hard and crunchy? When I do a load of whites, I do dump in a bit more washing soda and borax.

I used the Ivory too-I love the smell-but after reading I did add a cup or so of the Dawn-it really works.
It does NOT work in the dishwasher.
Cleans but leaves a sludge. Not good.
