Very Strange Bug

Has anyone ever seen a bug that looks similar to this.. or even know what it is? *shudder*

Looks alot like a mosquito of some sort.

Or, it could be a wasp.

would they get that big? The body if this thing was the size of my hand.. about 4 - 5 inches.. and the tail thing was longer than the body.

I can't see your picture, but we have mosquito-looking bugs that are huge. I don't know what the correct name is, but we call them mosquito-eaters because that is what they do. Needless to say, we don't kill them.

It looks like a female Ichneumon wasp. According to the bug book, that long stinger looking thing is an "egg-laying structure". They are considered beneficial bugs because the larva eat other, more annoying bugs. They will sting, but only if you pick them up. They eat dead wood, so they're leave the animals alone, too. This is according to the Texas insect book. Of course, since you found it in Houston, it's probably some mosquito that got mutated by all the pollution.

Tee Hee I told my boyfriend that if that's what the bugs look like in Houston and if I came across anymore mutant insects, I was dragging his butt to Colorado with me; give me three feet of snow of giant insects any day!

well I looked up that wasp that jewel mentioned and its just about an exact match.. so its a wasp. Yup definately need to move somewhere the bugs are smaller. I really really don't like bugs.
