Lawsuit pertaining to Equine Dentistry

Has anyone heard of a lawsuit with the American Veterinary Assoc pertaining to the practicing of Equine Dentistry by people other than vets? I was talking to a gentleman today and did not fully understand the whole story and was hoping someone else could fill me in. But what I could gather was there is a lawsuit filed to stop Equine Dentists from practicing unless they are a licensed veterinarian. Now I use my normal vet to do all my floats but I can imagine for people that use an equine dentist it might cause some problems as from what I understand not all vets will float teeth or mess with them.

I have not heard of the suit-but the usual issue with unlicensed practioners is that almost all of them do sedation and that is not legal. Invasive procedures can only be done by a Vet. Now YOU can do your own animal-problem arises when you are working on someone else's animal.
Some work with a Vet and some ARE vets.
I have a Vet here that does only teeth-He is great.

Yes, there is a lawsuit currently in progress. I believe the suit was brought by the dentists, though, against the state for saying they couldn't practice unless they were licensed vets. "The Horse" had an article on it.

I have too many vets I wouldn't trust to float my horses' teeth, so I sure wish we could go ahead and have equine dentists!

I knew I had read that somewhere recently too, but couldn't remember where. Same as Range it was in "The Horse".

Frankly, we had a vet do our horses, then I had the dentist come out and check, and there were still dental issues. Plus, the dentist cost LESS than the vet.

I'm with Range here for our critters; they see the Dentist. I just don't trust the vets.
