HELP needed for 2yr. old COLT!! ASAP!!

today i recieved an email. it is a bit disturbing but maybe someone can help. also, maybe yous can give me opinions on what she should do....
hello,

My friend and I have a horse we rescued from an auction and we just can't afford his care. He is a 2 year old colt that hasn't had anything done with him except abuse. He is blind in both eyes and he has scaring on his nose. We need help with him. I would like him to go to an approved Vet Assisted home where someone is going to give him the time and care he needs and deserves. He has done really well with fencing and learning about the halter. We also have him where you can lead him and pet him all over. He is still alittle shy but he is a good boy. His name is Buddy. I do not have any pics of him because of the way he looks I am afraid someone will think we did this to him. Do you have room for one more? Please email me back and let me know either way. We are located in Manns Choice, PA.. thank you for your time.

I used to live in MannsChoice, PA, and my home town is only a few miles away. Could you pm me the info on the person who contacted you? I very possibly know them and might know someone nearby that could help?

i will forward her the info, and i will PM you shortly with her info. i feel soo bad for the little guy but seriously if she cannot find a good home for him that will understand him. i think it would be best if he is just put down... i don't know how many off you's would like me to actually say that, but with him being soo young and abused, maybe it would be best...talk soon... and please do not think any less of me because i just had to say that.

I was going to say that might be the kindest option....but was afraid I'd get pelted with rotten tomatoes!

Very sad, I hope it can be resolved in the best way for the little guy.

It may very well be the best option for him, but I'll still get with her and try to have someone go evaluate him. I'll let everyone know what I get accomplished.

I agree. Unless you can place in him a permanent home that will care for him properly that might be the most humane thing. He is only 2, he will have a long life ahead of him and if not taken care of it could be an unpleasant one.
There are too many unwanted HEALTHY horses out there already.

It's so sad right now. A few years ago it seemed so easy to find a good home for a companion horse, and all the ones I ever placed turned out really lucky, but now.... even finding a home for healthy horses is next to impossible. I think I'm lucky having to board right now, or I'd proabably be overwhelmed with freebies right now.

the reason why the market is SOO BAD is because of the slaughter issue.. many people that have horses they do not want do not know where too turn, and most of your SPCA's , horse rescues, humane society's are TOO full to do anything. 'IN MY OPINION ~please donot get mad about this one~
but instead of them shutting down the slaugther plants they should've made them better.... meaning how it is done....
i love horses DEARLY but somethings are meant too be, and people have to realize, before we had the horse as a USE (other than us who wanna just love them and have them) they did use horses for meat.. just like your cattle, veal etc.... but comon.. who wants to ride cattle

i read in last years horse and rider mag about people who want to keep them open for a reason, because we will "LITTERALLY" be overrun with horses (too many horses per TOO little CARING owners) and you can't tel people not too breed, i know i would like to breed my one horse to a nice gypsy vanner in the next few years.....

but they should have a petetion stating this for votes instead of just CLOSE THEM DOWN

1. close them
2. make them better so it is a "nicer" process
3. keep them open

i wuold def. go for #2

It is a sad state things have come to these days. Hearing about that poor horse makes me sad and very angry Why people feel the need to mistreat animals is just beyond me. I hope whoever did that to him gets their just desserts. As for slaughter, I think they should have left it open but improved it, like whstables said. It is not fair to all these unwanted horses to have to suffer. Sad and disgusting. Keep us posted on his situation.

So I contacted a bunch of people, but the consensus is that they all think that she should put him down. Appearantly, this girl has had some very bad press a few years ago with severe animal cruelty charges. She made the front page of the paper over it and all her animals were confiscated. She told me she doesn't personally have the horse, but I was told that she isn't allowed to own any. This all happened while I lived in Kansas for a few years, which is how I missed it all.
I feel bad, but what has happened with her causes all horse people I know to refuse to deal with her in any way. She was running a "rescue" at the time of all this as well. I'm sure she has good intentions with this horse, but she is just not credible enough in the area I live in for anyone to pay any attention to her now.

ETA: I personally do not know this person, this is just what I've been told by more than a few people. I also feel bad for the situation it's self, but being so far away at the moment, I tried to do what I could.
