Searching a Ranch near Toronto

Hi

I´m a student from Germany and from April until October I will be in Toronto (Downtown) to do an internship. As I don´t want to stop horse riding for this six month I´m looking for a Ranch wich is near or in the area of Toronto. I hope somebody here can tell me where I can find a Ranch! Thanks for your help!

Really nobody here who can help me?
Aren`t there any Ranches near Toronto or are there so many?
I want to take professional lessons in Western riding, especially in Reining!
So it would be nice if somebody could recommend me a Ranch with a good Trainer!
Regards from Germany
Janine

Hi Janine,

I don't think we are ignoring you. It is that some of us don't live close enough to Toronto to know of boarding facilities. I know that in the Campbellville area, there are quite a few very nice places but I don't have names and addresses. I can give you the website to one of them and maybe they can steer you in the right direction. It is: www.FiveStarRanch.on.ca

It is owned by Gail Haynes who is a very nice person.

Good luck in your search.

Send a message via MSN to cowgirlspurs
And there are quite a few in Uxbridge/Stouffville area(east of Toronto). Right in TO you won't find any for reining.
If you do a google search for reining farms in Ontario that might help you some and then use mapquest.com to check on the locations.

You could also try the Equiman website, lots more Ontario people on there that may be able to help! I however live 3 hours away from TO.

Welcome. I live about 1 3/4 hour away from Toronto but the outskirts of Toronto are beautiful. e.g. Halton Hlls Area; Milton; etc.

Hey, I have my horse at Five Star and I've been riding there for almost 10 years off and on. I know Gail and have taken lessons from her. It's a great place if you want to learn reining. I learned everything I know about horses and riding from Five Star. It's a bit of a drive from downtown, but I doubt you'll find many western/reining barns much closer. It's probably only a 45 minute drive, and that's not too bad if you want to come down on the weekends or something. Let me know if you need more info or come to the barn and I'll show you around. I live in Burlington BTW. This is so cool. It's a small world.

Hi!
Yes, I thought about coming to the Five Star Ranch. I had a look on their website and it all sounds great. I`m looking for good to professional horse riding lessons because I´m an advanced rider. But I think I can get them there?!
Do you know if it is also possible to come to the Five Star Ranch by train from Toronto? If not I will come by car.
Thanks for your answer!
Regards Janine

Five Star is now mostly geared towards upper level riders. They offer all of the regular CEF levels (1-4) and Gail offers her own lessons in reining, although you can work on whatever you like in her lessons. Reining is her specialty, but I'm sure she could do whatever western discipline you're looking for (ie. western pleasure etc). She also offers a lot of training classes and week long programs in the summer for dealing with young, green horses. Right now Gail has a group lesson on Thursday night, but you could also set up private lessons if you like. Also, Josh Lyons is coming to the barn April 18-20 and he's holding a clinic if you want to come. There is info about that on the website under clinics.

As far as transportation is concerned, you'll probably have to drive. You can take the train to Burlington, but then you'll have to get a car ride or a taxi ride up to the barn in Campbellville. It's easier just to drive.

I hope you decide to come. Let me know if you do and I will try to be there.

BTW, what discipline would you take lessons for? I assume you would be using one of Gail's horses, right? You could also part board a horse if you like. Gail has a few you could use, and there are a few privately-owned horses who need part boarders too. It really just depends what you're looking to do. If you part board with Gail, you usually get 1 lesson and 2 practise rides a week.

Hi
thank you so much for your help.
Well, I would like to take lessons in reining. Maybe private but I would also take group lessons.
That all sounds great on Five Star Ranch and I thought about when and how to come. However, I think maybe it would be a little bit to complicated for me to come from Toronto (Northyork) to Campbellville. The reason is that I haven`t got my own car here. I would have to rent a car to come. In the length of time it might be a bit to expensive... But I´ve found a Bus which goes from Toronto to Milton. Maybe that would be a good Idea. I think from Milton it`s not that far to the Ranch?!
When I would come with the Bus to the Ranch I might be come only once a week or every second week only because it takes over one and a half hour for me to come Campbellville A part board horse would therefore be to often...
Hmmm...I also looked at the internet for other barns closer to Toronto. But the most of them it´s not that what I´m looking for.

Hmm, yeah, I don't think there are very many western barns around here period. I only know of 2 other western barns within an hour radius of Burlington, and neither offer reining. Anything closer to Toronto is English.

Milton is fairly close, but still a bit of a drive from Campbellville. If I had a car or knew how to drive, I wold offer to pick you up, but I get a ride from someone else. I'm sorry I can't be of more help to you in those regards.

But I do hope you are able to come every once in a while. I think you will be pleased with the lessons.
