Discipline info on the NE

I was wondering what the popular discipline was in the northeast. I was scanning the sale sites, and I see a majority of H/J'ers in the NE. I dont see many that are WP, or any other discipline. Can someone inform me of what you tend to see a lot of or not enough of, etc...? I am looking to get into my horse broker business up there, and I am trying to inform myself of what the market tends to fall towards. Thanks!

I feel that what ever your expertise is in, than that is what you should do.
There are alot of pockets of wp and reining and barrel racing, to me personally I love to look at a horse performing but I have no clue as to what would be the right price or how to market.
On the other hand Jumpers or hunter is my favorite so I know alot of the top riders and trainers.
Ask around to the barns. I would start with the vets in the area, tell them where you are going to settle. and if they have suggestions as to barns you might inquire at.
yellowbook.com for that area might help with a list of barns. alot of ground work but it is a way to start.

In my limited time here, I have seen a caboodle of dressage, H/J, type activities. Here in NY, TBs are on every corner and seem to be frequently low priced of free for OTTB. Obviously, trained horses are more, but there seems to be a saturation. I see a few barrel horses and other speed and action events on a local scale, as well as some WP. What seems really lacking, especially since I have been shopping for one for awhile, is broke experienced trail horses. When I see one go up for sale it is generally snatched up PDQ, especially beginner oriented type horses. I will also say, horses here are pricey in comparison to other states. For a trained horse in any activity, they start at 2500-3000. Gaited horses are even more and harder to find.

Hope this helps!
Sheila

PS... if you are headed this way and find a BIG experienced trail horse.. LET ME KNOW!!

Thanks! This is EXACTLY the answer I was looking for. I just want to get familiar with the sales in the area so I can pick back up helping people find horses as well as buying. Its hard to do when you dont know what the market falls towards. Maybe I will base my training on breaking horses for trail riding...

I do ALOT of barrel racing around here, canada, down south, etc. All over, but there is still alot up here. Alot of cow events too. But you have noticed, and will notice a LARGE amount of english verse western.
