Didn't know about it. What are they doing? I live about 15 minutes from them.
Their farm and clinic are nice. They are our vets as well-super nice people.

They are very nice. I really like Steve Naile.

Dream Ponies, the clinic is a basic horse owner's seminar. It includes lectures and demonstrations on:

Nutrition and Hay Selection
Pastures and Housing
Handling and Restraint
Parasite control
Dentistry
Lameness diagnostics and Therapeutics
Gastroscopy
Breeding

You also get to tour the expanded clinic facility and see the latest foals. there is a fee of $15 per person to cover food and materials. It is from 8:30-4:30. If you are going; it would be fun to meet each other in person.

Jomarie, I'd love to come by to see you and Jerry. I checked mapquest, and it's about a half hour to your place from Oakencroft, then another hour and forty five minutes back home. Will check with Keith, as we need to be back to take care of our two boys. If not this time, then maybe a visit over the summer.

Hi Ladies. That is ok. We could always make it another time. I know what it is like to have a tight schedule.

Clinic At Oakencroft

Keith and I went to the clinic yesterday. There were many new foals, the youngest was a week old. It was well worth the $15 charge and hour and a quarter drive for us.

There were many interesting and informative topics. We split into groups of 20-25 and went to the different ones that way. The hay/grain selection was very interesting as well as the Worming one. There is no one grain that is best for all horses, and the only way you'll really know what hay is best is to have it tested. Also, the best horse treats to give your horse are peppermint antacids.

The barn/pasture safety was also great. Something we never thought of was the metal devices that hold the handles on the stall water buckets have been known to tear a horse's eyelid, nose and lip.

There was a 45 minute lunch break with grinders, salads, chips, cookies, apples and drinks. We had a chance to mingle.

Apparently, there is a NY state organization that will come to your facility and evaluate it for you regarding safety, etc. I believe it is a free service. You can get more info on this from Oakencroft.

They are holding a two hour (9-11) nutrition seminar on Sat., 4/5 and 4/12 at Green Meade Farm in Richmond, MA.

Sounds like you had a good day. Your local Co-operative Extension office does hay analysis, one in almost every county. As for grain, I am getting a little tired of Neutrena. Looking into Blue Seal or Purina.
As for the hooks A ring with a bar to hang the bucket on , Hate them, My stallions nose was ripped open from them. Now I use Rings with double clips. easy to unclip, a horse can not swing them off either.

Jomarie, Cooper gets Blue Seal Strider. We've been happy with that and so is he. Magic and Esprit also got that, and Cody got Blue Seal Senior. Ahliver gets oats.

Sounds like it was great. Too bad I couldn't make it. The girls had lessons and we had to be at a neighbors St. Patty's party. Too much going on. Maybe next time.
