thought I was doing it right this time.....

I am sooooo upset! This is my 4th horse in 2 years , all bought in NC. The 1st one had been abused and was more of a man's horse. The 2nd one hated the arena, the 3rd one ( that one I'm to blame as I bought it sight unseen and believed the owners) had a VERY uncomfortable trot . The 1st 2 had no idea as to what canter is!!!!And I didn't know that horses who are over 5 y, old, here in the USA do not know how to canter. The 4th is lovable, super friendly, tries really hard BUT kind of panics when ask for canter and only knows canter on 1 lead! Also, major problem with the bit, issues with the noseband and his back AND windsucks at times. I have had him at home for 2 months. The reputable trainer I bought him from tells me to sell him on (???). I don't want to! He had his teeth floated, the chiropractor is adjusting his back once a month. I could not manage the vet check because of time, place and work issues.
The trainer knew my goal was to do dressage ( not showing), no help at all. I am sooo upset ! It all started 3 weeks ago, I was tightening the girth ( elastic, pulled in stages)asked him to walk on(in hand) and he strated hopping with his back legs! He had not shown cold back before! And I gave $5000for him!

Sounds to me like your horse was not started fully/properly.

Does your saddle fit him properly?

The problems with the bit, the hopping, attitude, one lead at the canter all sounds to me like they rushed to start him, and did not give him a good foundation at all.

Was the trainer an english/dressage trainer?

Geez, for $5K I could have sold you a fantastic, well started horse with a basic dressage foundation in a second!

What kind of breed is it? QH?
