Lightbulb Looking for local auction reports

Have you been to a Carolina [North or South] horse auction lately?
Say...within the past 60 days?
If so, I'd appreciate testimony regarding prices, as well as quality of
animals consigned.
For example: what was the range for mature, trained saddle horses? What did youngstock sell for?
Generally speaking, were the animals in poor condition?
Did you happen to find a big surprise, such as a free horse, in your trailer when you returned to your vehicle?
Were the crowds smaller than usual?
More horses consigned than usual?

Oh, I almost forgot. What auction did you attend?

Any details would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't been to a horse auction since August, 2006 and morbidly curious to know if a similiar situation currently exists here in the Carolinas.

FYI - I live in North Carolina.

Thanks in advance.

I've been to one auction here and it broke my heart. There was a gaited Appy mare that went for under $200...and I would have bought her if I'd had a stall for her. A registered, halter-point holding AQHA paint mare went for $800 and she was incredible in the ring. There were all kinds...gaited, registered, grades, mini's, drafts, mules, you name it. At least 40 + horses that night. There's an auction at least once a month at the local Ag center and while it's not always big, it's there.

Dapple,

Thanks for responding to my request. Base upon your report, it seems to me, the horse industry is just as bad here as it is in the rest of the country. If things go my way, I plan to hit the March 28th [Saturday] portion of the
draft horse and mule sale in Troutman, NC. I'm going as a spectator, not
really looking to buy anything.
