Anyone want to help with horse shopping?

I have been kind of sort of looking for a horse to be my next riding partner. After losing Memphis I did not want to try again but I have decided now that I want to try to look for a horse. If I find one I just LOVE I will go ahead and buy it. I really dont want to miss out on everything I had planned this summer and all that.

So basically im not really picky. I just want a horse that is close to me (Licking, MO), well broke, sound, sane, at least 14.1hh, nothing impressive bred (sorry impressive fans), and cheap (as in under $2000 for sure).

I would prefer a stock type gelding. But I guess thats not really a have to have type thing. Im also not looking for anything gorgeous. Pretty is fine but my friend Carrie has a saying "Pretty is as pretty does". Pretty usually does NOT do well for me! lol. So if any of you want to help me I would appreciate it. Thanks a lot!

We have a mare that would fit, all except she has some lameness issues. She has been a broodmare for the last several years and her feet are really flat right now. She used to be a ranch mare. We are going to see if simply shoeing her will fix the problem, but as of now no quarantee she will be completely sound. I'll keep my ears open for others though.

Stef, would you be interested in a gaited horse? Foxtrotters do it all.....do you have a color preference? I know there are lots of horses for sale around here if you would want me to look around in this area for you.
See how far Licking is from Festus.

I think festus is roughly 2 1/2 or 3 hours from me. I would really prefer a stock horse. Dont get me wrong I love gaited horses and if I could have two I would have another gaited horse. But I have been doing some arena stuff with a few barrel racers lately and gaited horses cant move in that deep dirt as well I dont think. The gelding I have been riding is gaited and I feel so sorry for him lol. He fights that dirt and is just wore out when we are done. I was always told if you run gaited horses it will break their gaits and make them rough. Is there any truth to that Scrapchick?

Stefanie,
as sort of a carry over from the longmeadow thread, I just wanted to let you know that Audi has been adopted.

I did meet a gelding while we were down there today that was very sweet. His name is Ranger. I don't even know if he's listed on the website. All I really know about him is that he was very sweet when I cleaned his stall and really seemed to enjoy the company. Listening to their trainer talk it sounds like he is pretty good under saddle. I didn't get to seem him ridden since today was a their big Club Hope day, they had 300-400 (my guess) people there.

My son canters Cleo every time he rides her, but she is not built for barrels, she is too long legged. If you want to do barrels, you should stick to a stock type horse. I will look around this way and see if there is anything for sale that would fit....if I have to go look myself I would do that to save you the long drive!! I love horse shopping!

Stephanie,
I have a beautiful, six year old, grade, black gelding for sale at this moment. I bought him at the Shawnee, Ok sale two years ago. He had been a working horse on a Nevada ranch/stock yard. He is well trained, sound, sane, beautiful, athletic, and an easy keeper. I have two young horses I spend all my time with and he is going to waste. I paid 1400 for him. I'd like 1,000. I'll post some pics here in a bit.....

(This is not a flattering shot of him)

Good luck with your new horse. Hey...if you come across anyone needing a good trail horse, or just a good horse, send em my way!
