My sister, my Mom and I went to the Bristol (Wisc) Renn Faire today for the 1st time. Who's been there? We've talked about going for years, just never managed it. I drove to my Mom's from home, about a 2 hr drive, then we all 3went together from there. Was about an hour and a 1/2 drive. It was everything, and more, that I always thought it would be. Lovely breezy day, not too hot, lots of interesting stuff to see, demonstrations, FOOD

, medieval dress and speech the order of the day. Lots of cleavage

on display by the "wenches". It was a hoot! Of course, the highlight of the day was the Joust. First there were a bunch of "soldiers" marching around in formation with their extraordinarily long pikes with narration by a young lady on horseback explaining the various war maneuvers. The King and Queen were present and welcomed us all and then announced the knights; our section of the audience got the best one

, Sir William of Somewhereortheother

, can't remember his proper title

. He had the best horse, big but very quick and agile; he was the best rider too. Only one of the horses was clearly a big draft type, which would have been what was used back in the day. It was so fun to watch them demonstrate their skills, especially when charging pell-mell at each other with lances lowered, and THWACK, bent shields and wobbly riders. Our Sir William was clearly the best but turned out to be a dastardly knave

and cheated. Thus the Queen, in her displeasure, ordered a Joust to the Death

to be battled at their 5pm show. We didn't get to stay that long but greatly enjoyed the show they put on. The only minor complaint I had was with this dude who was laboring around the forrest pulling a rickshaw full of fair-goers. It was hard work, I'm sure, and he was dressed in period clothing that had to be uncomfortably warm but the dude was rude

. I was waiting in line for drinks of the frothy variety

, very thirsty, and this dude is shouting at me and this young boy, to GET OUT OF HIS WAY, coming through. I stepped back just in time, got my sore shoulder bumped as he passed and almost had my foot run-over by the contraption he was pulling

. He shouted at the wide-eyed young boy too, Hey you, yeah YOU, get outa the way, MOVE, and all the while he's not slowing down at all. I was left there contemplating if he woulda bowled us over in the middle of the King's Highway

. What a

, grrrrr. Now if he woulda run over my foot, or the kid

, I woulda done my best to see him put into stocks and flogged; nothing like a serious bit of richly deserved medieval whoopa$$ justice

. Afterwards, to pacify myself

, I bought a great, huge block of toffee, English, of course

.
It was just a really fun day and I'm hooked. The Faire will be a yearly sojourn every year for us now. I highly recommend it
