Question to the folks here

Has anyone heard of this place before? They sell only geldings. They say they're a private facility. So I'm just asking really. The place is called Big Springs Horse Market. They very near the Wisconsin Dells area. Does anyone know it?? If so, have you bought from there? Or have a friend or know someone who did? What kind of experience did they have with them? This place offers a 2 week money back guarantee if the horse doesn't work out in trade for another horse. I'm eyeing one in particular, but I don't want to say which one cause I don't want anyone to look at him I think they're prices are a bit high, but seeing some of them that have gone through there I can see why they're so high priced. I've been watching this web site for about 2 years and they've had some really nice one's go through and sadly have sold before I could even inquire about the horse. Just wondering if anyone knows of this place?

Thanks

Sorry, I've never done business there but I love to window shop on their website. One of my friends told me about it and though they never actually went there, they did have a pleasant email exchange with the owners. My daughter likes to look there too. She has a crush on an ad also. I keep telling her she should go and check them out and have a little vacation in the Dells while she's at it. It could be a lot of fun-try out horses, visit the waterpark....
If you go, tell us about it.

I didn't think their papered horses were out of line on price but the grades probably were. But then again if the horse truly is as calm and "bombproof" (I hate that term) as they say I would still consider a grade at that price - I've been bucked off an broke both hips before - I'd rather spend the money on a nice horse that is as trustworthy as a horse can be and lower my risk for injury as much as possible

I haven't had any experience there myself but I know several people in the neighborhood that reccommended that place when I was first looking. They say she has a pretty good reputation of having good to great horses and if she don't have one that matches you she will help you try to find one that does. Also has the two week trial which can be a plus. I did not end up buying from her because she did not have what I was looking for and was able to find one before her. I am constantly checking out the ads and have seen several come and go before I could get an appointment to see them. Some day when I can convince my husband that one more is no big deal I would not hesitate to try to look at more of hers. If I can get to them before they are sold. She also does on some occassions sell mares if they are great choices she could not pass up.

Hey I also heard good things about them I know who the trainer/rider is They just do the trail horses and some speed fun show type ( lower level type shows/ 4H) or 4H type horses Never been there or bought from them She comes up to Nolans and sell some that have been on the site for awhile also so buys at sales too. When she takes them to the sale they sell she is not "priceing" them sometimes they do not work out ( people lie ) for her so not the best ones go to sale. hope that helps

Thanks everyone for your input. I wish they would get some more that aren't so young. I'm not a 20-something and don't bend like I used to and wish they would get more gelding in the 10 to 15 years of age, more people might buy quicker if they did, but who am I to suggest? Wonder if this lady goes to the Maquoketa IA sale? Or the Belle Plaine IA sale? I go to both of them when I'm not busy or if I have someone to go with me. I've probably seen her and just not known that it was her. I just hate the idea of driving all that way to look at a horse and then not even having a guarantee that it would still be there by the time I arrived. The Dells is a good 4 hours north of me at least.

Anyway, thanks you guys! You've been a help.

I've not been there myself, but have heard nothing but good stuff from those who have. I've referred a few acquaintances that were looking and they all have positive stories to tell, got a good, reliable horse for a fair price. Right now they have several really nice ones that haven't moved for some time, which surprises me. It'd be about a 4 hr trip for us too, we're about an hour north and east of the Quad City area; hey, we're neighbors ! Anyway, that's the 1st place I'll look if we're shopping again anytime soon. So, come on, fess up, which one has tickled your fancy ?

I'm going to jinx myself, I just know it!! But oh well, I can't get anything until my mare sells anyway, so I guess I'll just say it out. If anyone buys him I wish you many years of happy riding on him. I told my riding instructor about him and I've told the BO where I board about him hoping that one of them would be motivated enough to want to go look at him, but like I said, I can't buy anyway so what's the use? I just want to (cry) that he won't be mine! However, the bright side of things is that I will be able to ask you all for advice later when I am able to buy and am looking at potential puchases.

Horse Name: Black Jack 16 yr old black Quarter Horse gelding, 14.3 hh. Neck reins real well, slow trot and smooth canter. Gentle and very laid back. Has been rode by younger kids, close to bombproof. Good on trail, goes through water and over bridges.

Horse Name: Black Jack another look

He's a handsome guy, good choice . I especially like his pasture pictures, looks like a nicely built and sturdy guy and I love his color. I currently want 4...no 5 of their horses . Love both Apps, the bay looks like my Teddy's brother and the black one's been there for some time and needs a home; also am intrigued by the Haf/Arab cross. He was sold but I guess it didn't work out. He's a little smaller than what we like but I really like him; whoever named that handsome guy Winifred anyway ; also LOVE the black Walker and finally the 8 yr old gray. I'll have the lot . I check their site most every day too. It's great fun to window shop . Think positive, maybe your mare will sell and he'll still be there.

I wonder if the lady that owns the place would know of someone who might be interested in your mare or willing to work with you on that???

Just a thought.

I saw SEVERAL of their horses that if I had the money the pay for them and care for them that I would definitely like to check out!!!

I hope that works out for you! Please keep us posted how it goes.

I'm only 40 min. west of the Quad Cities - maybe we could go riding some time

I'd love to! Just need to get my mare sold, buy me a solid, QUIET and laid back ol' horse to ride the trails with. I did write and found out the lady Jo is in the hospital and her hubby said she'd write when she got out. Hope it's nothing too bad that she had to go in for! So cross your fingers for me ok?

Thanks a ton!!
